Hi Frns,
Yesterday evening I've been roaming around to check some of the restaurants around British Council for our Farewell. I believe I've covered most of the Veg Restaurants avail there. Let me give u details of the restaurants, we all can decide based on that.
1. Dhabba Express / Sachin ka Dhabba - Nungambakkam
Lunch Plan: Unlimited Veg Buffet
Buffet Menu (Unlimited):
1. Two Types of Veg Salad
2. One Raitha
3. Two Types of Bread (Mostly Roti & Naan, at times kulcha/paratta)
4. Two Types of Veg Curries
5. One Dhaal item
6. One Veg Pulao / Veg Fried Rice (This might be of diff veg recipes)
7. Noodles - One type
8. Macroni - One type
9. One Chinese Side Dish (Gravy kind)
10. Curd Rice
11. Hot & Sweet Jilebi
Cost: Rs.90/- per head
Ambience: Punjabi Style - Good & Spacious
Duration: We've to be there by around 12.30 - 1.00pm and we can spend about 1.5hours, to the max 2 hours
Others: After Lunch we can have Lassi or Masala Pepsi or even Ice cream or Milk Shakes each would cost from Rs.25-30/-.
So at Rs.120/- per head we can have a very good lunch.
Apart from the buffet menu we can also order other veg items at seperate cost
Comments: I've been to this place many times with my friends (mostly 8-9ppl) for dinner. It was seriously good and worth for 90 bucks. Sometimes one of the breads - Naan wont taste that good (Roti will be good), but rest of the items will be good and the Hot & Sweet Jilebi was that buffet's very special item, I'm sure u won't stop eating. Also Punjabi's Lassi and Masala pepsi are some of the best drinks avail there.
2. Punjabi Dhabba - Mount Road
Lunch Plan: Unlimited veg Buffet
Buffet Menu:
1. Mineral Water (Ltd - 1/person)
2. Pappad
3. One Raitha
4. Two types of veg curries
5. One Dhaal item
6. Tandoori Rotis
7. White Rice
8. Lassi or Matta (Ltd - 1/person)
Cost: Rs.150/- per head
Ambience: Low Lighting was good, but small. On the whole its Ok & Compact.
Duration: We've to be there by 12.30pm and we can be there for only one hour to the max (Owner Requested).
Others: Even we can go for Thali Meal which has same menu but all items are limited for Rs.100/- per head excluding Lassi.
And not much varities available.
Comments: I haven't tasted here but heard it would be tasting good, but seems to be costlier for what they are giving. Though it is small, tables will arranged for 14 but for very short time(1 hr)
3. Asli Punjabi Rasoi (Veg) - Ethiraj Salai(Near Ethiraj College)
Lunch Plan: Order n get served (No Buffet)
Menu: Restaurant owner gave me some idea abt the menu we can order for 14, I'll list it out below:
7 Soups - served 1/2 (each Rs.40) - Rs.280
4 Starter Dishes (Avg Rs.80/dish) - Rs.320
7 Gravies (Avg Rs.75/Gravy) - Rs. 525
15 Butter Naans (Each Rs.22) - Rs.330
5 Rice/Pulao/Noodles Items (Each Rs.60) - Rs.300
14 Lassi/Milk Shakes/Juices (Avg Rs.25/item) - Rs. 350
Total Cost: Rs.2105/- i.e. Rs.150/- per head
Ambience: Good but small. Tables will be arranged for 14
Duration: We can be there by around 12.30 to 1.00pm and can be there to the max 2 - 2.5 hours.
Comments: Sorry guys after discussing abt the menu with the owner, immediately I sat there and had my dinner, the taste was average. But for that cost we're getting more items and more time, other dishes might be good but not sure, so its your choice.
4. Madapalli (Authentic Pure Veg Restaurant) - Ethiraj Salai(Near Ethiraj College)
Lunch Plan: Order n get served (No Buffet)
Menu: I'll list out the menu available for lunch
1. Madapalli Special Combo (Sweet, Variety Rice, Kadhambha Sadham,
Thair Sadham, Rice, Rasam, Poriyal, Vadaams, Pickle) - Rs.55/-
2. Executive Lunch Combo (Sweet, Sundal, Vegetable Rice, Chapatti, Gravy, Thair Sadham, Raitha, Pickle) - Rs.55/-
3. Special Combo(Fruit salad, Chappati, Roti, Gravy, Veg Rice - 1cup, Raitha, Curd rice, Lime mint cooler) - Rs.75/-
4. Chappatti Items - Surul Chappathi, Aloo Chapati, Panneer Chappathi, Dhaal Chappathi.
Cost: Here it depends on what you order, but on an average it would cost around Rs.120/- per head.
Ambience: The whole restaurant is in our traditional south indian set, so the ambience is good, clean & neat, but seriously very small.
Duration: I think we can spend only 1 hour there.
Others: There are also some more traditional items like kaaram & sweet kozhukattai, kuzhi paniyaram, aappam & coconut milk, but it'll be available only by 3pm. So later we go, better we taste.
Comments: Speciality here is that the items in the lunch combo are served in a Hygienic leaf cups, the one which is given in temples for prasadham :-) . Though it is small, the restaurant ppl told they can accomodate 14 in one table but not sure. But I like the place.
5. Sangeetha- Ethiraj Salai(Near Ethiraj College)
Lunch Plan: Order n get served (No Buffet)
Menu & Cost: I hope most of us would know the dish items available & its cost in Sangeetha. On an avg the bill would be around Rs.2000-2200/- for 14ppl i.e., Rs.150-170/- per head.
Ambience: Again most of us would know this, its good and spacious.
Duration: We can stay here for abt 1-1.5hrs I believe. We can get the seats if we come earlier like 12.30pm otherwise we've to wait for getting the seats.
Comments: Everything is good but its a bit costlier than others.
Guys, these are the details I've collected yesterday, so please think n tell abt it.
Please dont get confused with the names of the first three restaurants as all are punjabi restaurants.
Except Dhabba Express, for all the restaurants we need to confirm by Saturday(11-09-2010) Afternoon for booking.
And again except for Dhabba Express I need your attendance confirmation as we need to book, also the cost is divided assuming the count as 14 heads. But I dont want to miss u guys neither would all, so pls come without fail.
Please reply at the earliest.
Thank you.
Regards,
Arun Siva
