Hi there - so I am using retroarch for multiple systems, and everything seems to work fine for NES, Genesis, etc... but when I double-click a SNES game, nothing happens. The background of the app changes (which I think happens whenever I launch a game) but nothing happens. So I downloaded another emulator, installed it, and set it as the default. Still nothing.
The strange thing is if I right-click a game and select "launch with" and then EITHER emulator, it works fine. What would cause my installation to work fine using "launch with" but just clicking launch, or double clicking a game does nothing?
Right now, the associated platform is "Super Nintendo Entertainment System" in Retroarch, and the default command line parameter is "cores\snes9x_next_librero.dll" I have no preference of core, I was just going to use whatever the default is.
If I change the default emulator to snes9x (not using retroarch), the default command-line parameter is blank (which I didn't change because launchbox told me it would populate the most common options for that emulator).
It's just so odd because it works for every other platform, and I haven't made any changes. Do I need to change the default command-line parameter on the retroarch edit screen, or alternatively add a parameter to the snes9x edit screen?
The Snes9x Next core doesnt't even exist so that is most likely the issue. I don't know exactly what core you are using but edit the line so that the core dll file being loaded matches the one you are actually using in Retroarch.
So... I'm just getting more and more confused. I decided to just not use retroarch for SNES (and probably at all... when I actually have to use the GUI, it's horrendous on the PC) and just use SNES9X.
So I don't actually need any specific command line defaults (for snes9x standalone)
BUT... Launchbox isn't associating games with a different emulator even when I change the default emulator for the platform. It's leaving everything associated with retroarch... Madness.
The default emulator check box in the Associated Platforms window doesn't change anything, that's just for the game import process. To change your emulator for your games you have to edit the game and change the emulator and to do it for all the games in a platform you have to select all the games using Control + A and then right clicking and edit to bring up the bulk edit tool, select emulator and then the emulator you want to change it to.
Here is a quick tutorial video I did a little while ago that shows how to setup Retroarch and the NES core with Launchbox, even though it's for the NES the same rules still apply to any other Retroarch core.
So, here is what I have and what I've done. I purchased an already softmoded xbox a year ago that has UnleashX on it with all the Xbox games loaded and emulators running (Genesis, Nintendo, Super Nintendo, N64, Playstation). I FTP'd all the roms/games from that xbox to my computer .
I have a second xbox that I have softmodded using Rocky5's method and I have installed Emustation because I prefer the way that looks and the way it is setup. I have a 2TB drive installed that seems to be working fine and I have a F and G partition that are about 960GB each that I want to put my games and roms on. I have transferred about 8 Xbox games to the F drive and they are working. I have used the "other settings" menu to redirect Emustation to look for roms at F:/Games. I moved the emulator (and the emulator roms folder) and media folders to the G drive and redirected to those. No matter where I stick the Sega Genesis emulator roms, when I scan (either a complete scan or selected one), it doesn't see them.
2) I know some emulators like specific roms. Could it be that even though these roms work fine under UnleashX that they are not compatible with the emulator loaded on Emustation? If so, can I just install the emulator that is running on my UnleashX Xbox on my Emustation Xbox?
So I just uploaded some nes Roms and tried both the selected scan for Roms (nes) and then tried the auto scan. I restarted the Xbox after loading the Roms and then scanned. Still no luck and these did not even bring the nes logo on the carousel. I am doing the transfers with a MacBook Pro, but none of the files were created with a Mac. Not sure if that could be fighting me, but...
I'm having some weird behavior with my bezels. I currently have 2 emulators in my Launchbox install... MAME and RetroArch. Bezels work just fine in MAME. In RetroArch I have NES, SNES, N64, and Genesis cores. The bezels work just fine for SNES and Genesis. They do not work for NES or N64.
I've double checked ROM names to make sure they match etc. I've also looked through the config files to see if anything looks out of place. I'm guessing there is a setting I'm missing but I'm not sure where to look. Any help/advice would be appreciated.
Make sure the ...\Retroarch\config folder names that contain the cfg files match the name expected by the Retroarch core. Also make sure the core selected in the LaunchBox Emulator config section matches the core you want to use the bezels with.
What I've also noticed is happening is that on SNES and Genesis (the two emulators that work), when retrolaunch loads there is yellow text in the bottom left that says "Configuration Override Loaded". When NES or N64 is loaded I don't see that text and the same bezel is loaded for every game.
Any update on this? Having same issue in regard to bezels loading fine when games are launched solely through RetroArch. However, when same game is launched via LB/BB...no luck loading bezel. Using same core and while some games have this issue, others do not.
My guess is you have some existing game overrides for those games that you created before you added bezels so they don't show, just go and setup the bezel on a game that doesn't show it, and save a "Game Override" and see if that fixes it. Also a FYI, this is nothing to do with launchbox, we just tell Retroarch to load a core and give it a rom path, that is all, all Retroarch settings like bezels are completely controlled by Retroarch itself.
Some basic troubleshooting that might help you identify what's going on is to look at your LaunchBox configuration around the games that are not working properly. In LaunchBox, select the game that's giving you trouble and press CTRL+E to open up the options. Things to look for:
I agree with Neil that this is generally a Retroarch issue and LaunchBox doesn't have anything to do with how the bezels are shown in Retroarch but some of the configuration values that are setup in LaunchBox could cause this.
Hi Folks, I need some help with similar issue about bevels and overrides. The bezels were working for most platforms including Mame, but not working for SNES + Genesis + Sega Master System. I tried reinstall Launchbox from scratch and the same keeps happening. I think the issue are overrides... Here are the steps I took:
The best I could understand is that when I import bezels for NES using the Launchbox internal method of importing media + bezels together, it sets an override for each game so that bezels pop up, but that is not happening for SNES.
I can also go to one SNES game and set a manual game override and set the specific game bezel as the overlay target - it works, but there are other 700+ games (impossible to do one by one). I tried the other 2 variants of override:
Is there a way to make any override change differently so that it does like the NES and force the bezels by each game for SNES ? Should I try to download and install project bezels in parallel from launchbox ?
yes, overlay is on. Im able to change to the snes system overlay and it works, but the goal is to use each game specific bezel for each game. I think the issue is that each game should be invoking a o override and they are not. Thank you dragon for the patience on checking all these options with me ! let me know any other guess you may have!i
No override is needed for bezels to work. All you need is that overlay setting to be turned on for the core you are using (saved as .cfg). Next you need a subdirectory under the config directory that matches name for the core you are using. The cfg files under config\ point to the cfg/png files in the overlay\gamebezels\ directory.
