Request for code reviews for v1.2

I am putting the finishing touches on v1.2 and I would appreciate code
reviews. Obviously this is a bit much to ask, since there is a
reasonable amount of complex code. A lot of the value would be to
highlight areas of code that are unclear, improvements to the wording
of documentation, etc. Another set of eyes would be valuable and a
reviewer could spend as little or as much time as he likes.

There are currently 270 unit tests, so I am fairly comfortable with
the test coverage. The design document is ancient and reflect a failed
design path, so I'll be rewriting it from scratch fairly soon. All of
this work will eventually end up in Google's MapMaker, though that is
a much slower process due to complexities with its code.

If anyone is interested, I'd very much appreciate the feedback.
