prerequisite for Beginner

Hi All,

I came to know about this project from Jeff's answer on Quora. I have a good experience on Java technology but I am new to Open source contribution. My intention here in contribution to this project is to learn about distributed system. If you could tell me the prerequisite in terms of technology and topics in distributed system to understand the project. Any reference would be helpful.
