Hi Isaac. An NECN colleague of Garlynn and mine, Micah Meskel, is a conservation assistant for the Portland Audubon Society. The Audubon Society is part of a broader coalition of groups concerned about the Pembina Propane Facility. This coalition has penned a sign-on letter asking that the City of Portland (BPS) take steps in the time leading up to the March 17th Pembina hearing. The coalition is asking the City to be more transparent and provide a meaningful public process; provide adequate notice to neighborhoods in proximity to the site and prospective transit corridors; solicit third party experts to consult on outstanding issues; and allow for proper review of additional reports, etc. The sign-on letter is attached.
Garlynn and I would like to urge the CNA to sign on to this letter given the close proximity that our neighborhood is to the proposed site (Terminal 6) and given the significant negative implications that this propane facility may have on the health and safety of our community. If Board members choose to sign on to this letter, the decision would have to be made at Tuesday's meeting due to the timing of the upcoming Pembina zoning hearing. Thus, we would ask that all Board members review this letter thoroughly before the meeting so that they are prepared to discuss and ask questions. Thanks so much for your consideration of this letter.
Please send this out to the Board as soon as possible and urge them to read it. Feel free to forward my email with the attachment. Thanks,
---Katie
