GUARANTEED ACTIONS VERSUS TRUMPELOSI

Imagine a Constitutional Amendment that creates an office with all the power of the executive and the legislature in one person. Such an office would be no more prone to ignore their term limits than a President. Such an office should only need two years to get a massive amount accomplished. Such an office could make explicit campaign guarantees instead of the usual political insipitudes and impossible promises. The model for this is the office of dictator in the constitution of the Roman republic. Cincinnatus was dictator of Rome for a few weeks, repeled an invasion, resigned, and remains an emblem of civic virtue to the present day.

I have an extensive written platform at http://presidentbyamendment.com . I propose an omnibus Amendment to the Constitution there, and a detailed platform of
statute and policy in http://presidentbyamendment.com/issues/platform.html . For brevity and for comparison purposes, I will list ten fairly varied and characteristic things I guarantee I would do as legislator/executive or statutory dictator:

End the use of military force in pursuit of terrorists.

Prosecute Bush and Cheney for war crimes.

Reduce the income tax code to a few pages, and increase revenue.

Ban federal regulation of greenhouse gases.

Legalize all raw plant materials federally.

Finish repealing Obamacare.

17 Supreme Court Justices.

Engage the National Guard in border surveillance.

Votes will only count on paper.

Banks engaging in so-called quantitative easing will be prosecuted as counterfeiters.

That's ten explicit guaranteed acts, most decades overdue, and all of which the two-party scam is incapable of. I'm guessing Democrats will agree with about a third of that, and Republicans a different third. Believe me, it ain't easy being right all the time in DC. Precious few anywhere, if anyone, will agree with all of that, but the real question is; how much do you prefer all of the above to what trumpelosi is likely to accomplish in the foreseeable future, namely almost nothing? Those 10 items are pretty characteristic of my whole agenda. Is the stuff you disagree with as bad as the stuff you agree with is good? I doubt it. Things need doing.

The Framers weren't perfect, but they were absolute radicals. They wrote revolution right into the Constitution. Fast-forward to the present and approval of Congress is lower than Guinea Worm. An Amendment is very doable. When the center moves, things change, without a whole lot of drama. Maybe somebody else has a better platform. Maybe you do. You want the job I invented? Run against me. I do, and I can guarantee the above list.

I've turned down a couple House staff jobs, and I need a job, but I'm not interested in having a job unless I can do a job. That is the fundamental change that you can expect from statutory dictator Rick: The government will actually do its job. It won't be quite the way you want it, but the current uselessness is nothing short of extremely dangerous. I get it. It will take a dictator to install democracy and free market capitalism in the USA, whether either one ever existed before or not. Its doable, I'm available, and something major needs to be done. Yes, it's this bad.
