Isaac and Michael -- I do have a membership but I am with you. I quit my day job last October since I have worked 20 years for Ogden School District. I did not know about sf cons while working for US government (4 years active USNavy; 30 years civil service.) I will be 75 in December and need to change course. Would it be worth my time and money to attend C3 this year? I like SeaTac. My first Norwescon was because I was in charge of MilPhil’s 2001 Developing the Young Reader programing. Greg Bear wanted Reading for the Future Programming at his Worldcon. Dave Brin said that the Pacific Northwest overflowed with younger fen. He was right. For the past 12 years I have attended many Pacific Northwest cons as a member of SWOC.
C3 has changed since I first meet many of the regulars. The change seems to favor left coast Washington and restricts outreach. C3 seems to want only members living near SeaTac. Spokane and Portland hosted great C3s as did most of the C3s I attended. Norwescon, Rustycon and the Westercons have been worth my time. The 2005 NASFic is also a highlight.

Right now money is tight so I need to get full value for my attending C3.
I am going to Salt Lake City Tuesday and staying at a Marriott property using my rewards. Sharron, who is just tolerating her unemployed spouse, is having a cornea transplant. Her first one did have some complications but she cannot see from the other one. This time she is taking part in a research study.
Nikol, my Rustycon companion, works for Marriott so I can get a discount. I have not stayed at the C3 property. I have stayed in Kent and in SeaTac A Kent suite also has a Japanese breakfast. Norwescon used the SeaTac property for overflow.
WesterCONduit 2014 may send someone to C3 IF C3 has something worthwhile of interest to non-SeaTac con runners. CONduit is Memorial Day weekend. I am commuting from Ogden to save money (under $5 roundtrip on the front runner; from the airport to downtown SLC is under $2 for those coming to WesterCONduit.)
When I bid for the first World Horror Con the fact that our hotel had over 80 drinking/eating places within walking distance. SLC will have our third WHC.
SeaTac had one but through C3 I met that chair. He did bid for another WHC but lost to New York City which had the nightmare hotel. Property changed ownership. New owner remodeled and many sleep roomins lacked running water. Toilets sometimes would not flush. Sounds like a tale for C3. The first SeaTac area WHC also doubled up on cons. Horror writers and WHC each had con just days apart. Utah WHC became the second blending of the two. WHC SLC hotel gave the private club memberships with sleeping room sale. WHC supplied two bottles of Utah wine at each banquet table for the horror writers. Caution: Many not WHC attendees ghost the con. Adult’s only memberships. The San Francisco WHC had three chairs – an artist, a bookseller and another one who was blamed for everything that went wrong.
Past chairs gain a spot on the WHS board of directors. Mike (now bidding for 2014 NASFic) was my mentor. SLC bid started in October and in May we were selected.
SF WHC went to the book store for writers who were not WHC members’ autograph session. The official WHC autograph session was open to the public. About 100 writers were there. The WHS board (many are on the World Fantasy Board) changed to rule on the autograph session to WHC members only.
This year WHC is in New Orleans. Should C3 support bids for WHC or WFC or other one up cons? Who did the Nebulas (I know her as a writer/singer from Seattle)?
I would like to see a discussion on pro and con on bidding. NASFic worked. Seattle has tried Worldcon twice. Was Spokane a good choice for 2015? What about Vancouver?
Does C3 have any members not from the left coast other than Canada and Spokane?
