Reading for the Future was born at LACon III and incorporated recently.  I am working on the 10th draft of bylaws so RFF can gain 501(c)(3).  Does C3 have anything to offer the RFF three trustees (2 are C3 members).  RFF may have a student run Ender comes to Utah con this October when the movie is released.  I am working with a group of high school students on the Enderverse.  Orson Scot Card hosted Enderverse II celbrating the 25th annervisitgy of the Analog publication of the story.  RFF has a so-you-want-to-do-a-con  project.  What can C3 do to help?

I do plan on attending C3 2013 but it may be my last one.  C3 moved from all inclusive to WA only.  Why should anyone not living in WA attended?   David-Glenn Anderson, dga...@gmail.com

I imagine those involved with getting their respective conventions
501(c)(3) status would be glad to share their experience and advice. I
have one other possible suggestion. There are two major parliamentary
organizations with chapters most everywhere--the National Assn. of
Parliamentarians and American Institute of Parliamentarians. Typically
they will be willing to help non-profit organizations with bylaws and
such (and, by the way, both are 501(c)(3) themselves).

In the 1960s, I created three 501(c)(3) for Utah Neighborhoods/Ogden Neighbors.  ON neighborhoods were Lynn Community Improvement Council (CIC0 and West Ogden (CIC0  Ogden and Weber County at that time had 10 each CICs.  Mine was Lynn.  We were similiar to the President when he was a Chicago Neighborhood organizer (Saul Alinsky)  Saul has a book on how he organized neighborhoods.  The Cathlic Church would not let their neighborhood clinic staff teach birth control.  The neighborhoods needed free clinics.  Saul went to a meeting with the Church and one neighborhood.  The meeting was in a building own by the Church.  Saul knew that the Church would reopen the free clinics.  He walked into the meeting and had adefect in his brief case  -- a sharp nail that put a deep scratch down the conference table,

The Church agreed that staff could inform adults about birth control.

Lynn CIC and four others took on Utah State Corrections.  The Reform School closed.  Now at that time orphans as well as jd's were put into the Ogden Reform School.  The school was closing.  A new building -- Mill Creek -- was built on West 12th street across the street from the Weber County Jail.  (Ogden/Weber jail was on the top floors of the municipal building at 25th and Washington.)

Ogden City School District had signed an agreement with the state to provide services to a the minimum security prison built on the old reform school propery.  We talked to the OSD superintendent and he said LOST CAUSE.  We asked for a public meeting were thge State could explain plans for the prison to the impacted neighbors.

The neighbors filled the room.  No lynch rope seen.  My job was to moderate the meeting.  After the state presentation, q&A time.   The State as far as I know has never again claimed that they could do whatever they wanted with surplus land.  The OgdenWeber tech college is now where a prison was to be.

I know somewhat how IRS has changed the filing application.  I also know that I could get copies of everything needed from SWOC or Norwescon.

Thank you, Roer, for your comments.  You are one reason I stay within SWOC rather than copying the C3 model for Utah.  Utah SF was built on the SWOC and other 301(c)(3)s.  It is slow rolling rather than active.
