Despite its devlog status, the game garnered significant success, leading the developers to conceive a second game. However, concerns from fans resulted in the trailer for the second game being taken down. In reality, the trailer was a troll post by the developers, subsequently deleted from their YouTube channel. Nevertheless, the possibility of creating a sequel is still being considered.

Five Nights at Freddy's: In Real Time was first revealed in August 2023 on GameJolt and Twitter. Shortly afterwards, a trailer for the game was released, featuring Bonnie moving in the Supply Closet and Foxy moving in the Pirate Cove. On August 19, an official trailer was released. It was similar to the original Five Nights at Freddy's trailer, but featured several of the new elements that would be in Real Time, such as the moving animatronics. On August 20, a teaser image was released that, when brightened, revealed a distorted figure with the words "missing" at the bottom. In the same month, a teaser image for the new animatronic, Brother, was released. A teaser was also released featuring the numbers "10/10", revealing that an announcement would be posted on October 10.

On October 10, the first teaser trailer was revealed. It featured animated footage of Chica banging her head onto the East Hall window, causing her right eye to droop. A man in the background says "Are you there? Donavan? I'm gonna need you to listen to me". The protagonist of the teaser lifts up the monitor, only for it to turn black as the words "FIND OUT" appear across the screen. Afterwards, the logo for the Fangame Direct 2 and Real Time Studio appears. The logo again changes, displaying the twitter handle for Real Time Studio.

Also during October, an art contest was announced. In order to enter the contest, artists had to draw an image featuring a camera shot of the animatronics. All submissions would have their concept art put into the game as a real camera shot. The contest ended on October 25, 2023. During the same month, it was revealed that the animator for the original "10/10" short was evicted and is homeless. Real Time Studio made an announcement for the eviction and placed links to the animator's PayPal on the announcement. A "Real Time Studio Collaborators" event was also revealed, where people who wished to work on In Real Time via one of several talents (e.g influencers, coders, artists) could apply to become a collaborator on the project. A teaser referencing the original "10/10" animation also released, featuring a plate with a "MY FUN DAY!!!" drawing on the front with the subtitle "FOUND OUT".

On October 24, an interactive teaser trailer was released. The teaser allows viewers to directly interact with its story by allowing them to go to different videos at the end of each video, simulating a choice. The concept menu and the music for it was also revealed. On November 18, 2023, a second trailer was released. It used some of the animation from the "10/10" teaser, followed by reveals of several new shots of the animatronics moving. At the end of the short, the Brother animatronic, from offscreen, grabs the "MY FUN DAY!!!" drawing and pulls it away.

On December 7, the third trailer was released. It opens with the words "October, we lied to you" along with a mock ESRB rating that says "FNAF" at the top and "CONTENT RATED BY DECEMBA" at the bottom. A icon of Brother is at the center. Static slowly fades in, and "find out" appears within the static before the trailer quickly jumps to the logos. More of the previously revealed camera angles are shown, and during the last shot at the West Hall, Bonnie flips off the camera. The words "COMING SOON" are then shown along with several unseen camera shots, such as a shot of an Endo-01 at the Pirate Cove and Freddy in the West Hall Corner. It is then revealed that all of these shots are submissions from the previously announced art contest made into real camera angles. The trailer then cuts to the words "INTERACTIVE SHOWCASE" as Brother appears and several of the people who worked on the project are listed.

Afterwards, Freddy is shown ripping his head apart in the East Hall Corner. It then cuts to the words "Oh... But that's not all..." before a new animated series is revealed along with some of the people working on it, which is called the Monitor Series. It will contain an 8 part story. An announcement related to the collaborators effort was then revealed before some of the game testers were alongside it. Afterwards, it was revealed that testing for porting the project to Windows, Mac, and Linux was currently underway. The announcement was followed by a recap containing every big announcement in the trailer alongside reveals for a "FNaF Movie Game", upcoming playable demo, and 2024 release date. After the recap, an advertisement for a Brother-themed avatar theme available on Game Jolt was also shown off. For the last 30 seconds or so of the trailer, the Real Time Studio logo is displayed on top of a mysterious figure reaching for the camera and recording it while reversing and looping. On December 13, it was revealed that the game's engine was being switched from Clickteam Fusion to Unity.

On December 25, several new teasers related to the Monitor Series were released to celebrate Christmas. One features Brother standing in a red light. Another features a Freddy Fazbear's Pizza location. Another features an image of an old CRT television displaying camera footage of the Show Stage. Another features Freddy performing on the dimmed show stage. Another features a screenshot from a dated computer running what appears to be a version of Windows software that is modified with several new icons, including an icon of Helpy. Another features Bonnie performing on a brighter show stage. Another features a flashlight being shined on Foxy, who is peeking out from the Pirate Cove in a dark room. The final teaser features all animatronics performing on the primary show stage.

On December 29, four days after the set of teaser posts, multiple new videos were sent to various Five Nights at Freddy's fangame Twitter news sources before being released on Youtube a few hours later. The videos tease the upcoming 8-part "Monitor" series. A poster for the Monitor Series was also revealed. The first video is titled "MSTS_01.mov" and follows a man recording his CRT television that was previously displayed in the Christmas set of teasers. The video opens with the Real Time Studio logo before cutting to the camera feed. The man then goes on a stressful rant regarding a "night gig" (presumably the night guard) before being cut off. The unknown man's dialogue is as follows:

The second video is titled "MSTS_02.mov" and follows Freddy and the gang on stage talking to several children for a Freddy's advertisement. Freddy welcomes the children to the pizzeria before they cheer and an advertiser speaks over their performance. The dialogue of the trailer is as follows.

The video then abruptly cuts to the Monitor Series logo. The third video is titled "MSTS_03.mov" and follows an unknown person recording a Freddy Fazbear's Pizza location from the outside parking lot. Unlike the other videos, there is no dialogue in this teaser. He records the location for a few seconds before heading towards the entrance of the location as the video is cut. The location is supported by several black pillars at the edge of the building's perimeter and has a flat but thick blue roof. At the front of the building's perimeter is a large sign with a white background and red letters reading "FREDDY FAZBEAR'S PIZZA". What appears to be either a garbage disposal or a mailbox is located to the left of the door. It is possible to see into a window and entrance to the building, allowing the viewer to quickly notice the entrance and what appears to be part of a hallway or a section of the Dining Hall.

On January 27, a music video focused on the game was released in collaboration with YouTube artist Shadrow, titled "Never Seen us Move". The music video showcased, among other things, (modified) gameplay footage.

On January 28, a Brother art competition was announced where entrants would "design a 'brother-like' animatronic/character". Three submissions would be hidden in-game. On Febuary 23, the winners were announced. The winners video contained a short teaser.

On March 1, the third and final trailer was released, featuring complete gameplay footage. The trailer showcased both known gameplay elements and newly revealed ones, including an 8-bit minigame in a similar style to that of the demo and fully interactable cutscenes. The release date of April 27 was also announced at the end of the trailer.

On March 2, In Real Time participated in YouTuber Dawko's charity stream to benefit the PCRF. If certain donation goals were reached, Dawko would be given access to a demo for Night 1. The goal was ultimately reached and Dawko was given the demo, which showcased the game in its functional, uncut form for the first time. Interestingly, Brother appeared in 8-bit form at the end of the demo. After the demo was played by Dawko, a few other YouTubers, such as FusionZGamer, were given access.

On March 15, a teaser was released that led to a website titled "realtimefnaf.com". The website contained an image of newspaper scrap announcing that Fazbear Entertainment has closed the Freddy Fazbear's Pizza location due to a missing children incident.
