Wonder flowers add a lot to the game. It feels like one of those mechanics that would be the gimmick in a modern Kirby game, but one of the good ones like mechs or mouthful mode that really transform the game. Early in though, I do wish the effects the flowers had went a little wilder, but they always add a fresh challenge if you can find them. My favorite wonder flower segment so far is the 2nd level without spoiling what it is.
The wonder seed mechanic kept things interesting in a way, but I think it ultimately hurt level-design because it was overdone and not much happens in the level in the lead up to the wonder seed, it felt like the game rushed me in a way to get to the good part so to speak. Overall the game was a cakewalk, and yes I know there are some harder, optional levels, but it's too little, too late in my opinion.
Hey!
First off I really like the game. It is great and I am having a blast!
With that said, I was still expecting maybe just a little bit more. I really like the wonder effect in each level, but still I miss some great and unexpected secrets. It feels like it plays it a little too safe. Like a lot of you guys World is also my top favourite Mario game, and this game does - in my book - not come close. The template is way too tight in this game.
I am having a hard time putting putting my finger on exactly what I am missing. Bot do any of you guys feel some of this too?
Anyhow, it's a good game & all... but overal it's closer to NSMB + wonder flower gimmick rather than an amazing 2D platformer that stands the test of time. Sure, it'll be fun to play again even 2-3 decades from now. But... it's really not the kind of game I'd remember in a few years. It just doesn't hit many of the important notes. And it's not like 2D platformers can't impress me, I love Sonic Mania. Kinda sad that both the new Sonic and Mario sidescrollers don't even compare to it. In 5 years I'll still remember Mania fondly while I'll struggle to remember Sonic Superstars and Mario Wonder.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder evidently impresses with its creativity and innovation! The best jump 'n' run action paired with the colourful presentation of the flower kingdom including new enemy types and unpredictable spectacles of a wonder flower leave hardly anything to be desired! The implementation of a selectable badge before the levels rounds off the game experience; and the multiplayer has clearly been given some thought too. Only in terms of scope one can sense the short playing time and the small amount of power-ups that can be found.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder left me spellbound. Nintendo remains at the top of its game, and the Flower Kingdom is the perfect playground for its sprightly reinvention of what we have come to expect from setting out on a 2D side-scrolling adventure with Mario and his pals. This world of wonder comes crammed with the most whizz-popping surprises, making for a kaleidoscopic trip to the Flower Kingdom that is simply unmissable.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder is just that. A wonder. It leverages tight and concise platforming with a robust set of power-ups and skills to offer a degree of flexibility to players like never before. While it's still slightly easier than I'd like, Super Mario Bros. Wonder is an incredibly engaging Mario game and one of the best platformers available on the Switch, if not ever.
number 7. no bestiary. i dont mean a detailed synapses or something, but the best part of beating mario world was seeing the names for every toon as they as shown in their natural environments. might even have made the ending feel less, well, lackluster tbh. i would have loved to have seen this sequence for mario wonder.
number 8. and despite being last, this is actually my biggest gripe with the game. text. why is there text everywhere? mario is not an action rpg (kinda why im not a fan of badges but they aren't a gripe). imo a mario game should be playable start to finish without reading a thing. the pick up and play nature of mario was one of the qualities that led to him being such an endearing figure all these years.
i had an absolute blast with this game. easily the best mario since the snes, and hopefully the start of a new renaissance at nintendo. was EXACTLY the kind of appetizer an old gamer like me needed waiting for the paper mario and mario rpg remakes (my text comment obviously doesnt apply to those, they are very different animals). as to wonder, i've never been happier spending $90 on a game i completed in a day. worth every penny.
Im specifically talking about the level where you are jumping while following the beat of the music in a snowy mountain-themed place, also the one where the wonder flower takes you to space. Big "Farewell" vibes
Most of the music in this game is very quiet and hard to hear. I didn't even notice that the airship theme was a remix of the Mario Maker airship theme until someone pointed it out, that song just sounded like generic rock music. I don't know does anyone else feel this way or is it just me? I feel like the music in Mario wonder won't really be iconic or memorable 10-15 years down the line outside of one or two tracks.
As fun as Maker 2 is, wonder looks like a solid game, for the most part. i actually cant say for 100% since I was only able to try the first two courses. I just can't help but feel Mario Maker 2 you get more bang for your buck as far as content ant online capability. But again, I don't know that much about Super Mario Wonder. so I'm hoping you guys can help me with a decision or at least educate me on Wonder!
Got mario wonder early and I came up with this coin farming method, there will probably be better ones than this but seeing as there aren't any for now I figured this could be usefull for people wanting to 100% the game
26 hours of endless fun. You're in for a treat. I've never wanted to 100% a 2D Mario game before, but I couldn't stop playing this one, even if it got tough by the end. I just kept going and did everything on my own. And I still want more. It's a platforming masterpiece, Nintendo has done wonders again.
I could keep going on and on, like how that one stage in Deep Magma Bog with the slow-moving platforms (worst stage in the game) has a wonder effect that features a giant spike enemy mini boss. It's very random and odd.
Condarts Away has one of the best wonder effects in the game in my opinion, not only do you play with a new perspective, but you also must guide the enemies where you want them to traverse the stage. It's a neat gimmick and a nice expansion on the stage's concept.
Earlier this year I bought the Nintendo voucher with two games, but only used one. I've been wondering the best game among those to use that voucher. I love most of Mario games and RPGs too so I'm more likely to get the Mario RPG game, but I want to know your opinion :)
First, something I'd like to mention is that Mario Wonder is such a pretty game, gone are the bland overdone themes from the New Super Mario Bros and we have the pretty themes reminiscent of Super Mario 3D World and Land with gorgeous graphics and beautiful sprite work with the characters looking just like the artwork from the manuals (and this subreddit's icon), I think this is my favorite style next to Mario 2. The entire world map, I mentioned how the themes are all finally *new* but my gosh the whole exploration aspect provided in the mini areas and the amount of levels is just fun, I like the whole vibe of this game. I do think it's a little weird how there will be a traditional level progression and then boom, a free-roaming section for a bit before we transition back to the linear progression but idk it's just a minor gripe, really wish it was like 3D World with how the maps were formed but eh, it's fine. The collectathon style of these games was fun... until you died, Super Mario World is the biggest offender of this because of those awful Dragon Coins (would rather be in a Saw trap than collect one of those coins tbhhhh) and New Super Mario Bros DS made them fun to collect but after that, they were kinda lame so I'm glad that the coins have a purpose and when you died, you still have them (thank you, part of me died peacefully when I heard about this). The badge system is nice, really like the challenges (the timed trial on in World 2 was so hard but fun) they offer a new way of playing and a way to test your skills and thankfully, I was wrong. By the trailer, I actually thought they got rid of the wall jump in replacement for a badge, that was on me, however part of me wishes we could have access to two badges but I feel like it'd break the game so I can see why it wasn't a part of it.
I'm having a problem on the second level in Mario wonder when i get the wonder flower. The game plays Just fine in the First level even when i get the wonder flower but in the second the level plays normal and then when i get the flower the game becomes so slow that the piranha plants start going into the note blocks and disappearing out of thin air and at the end since the level doesnt Sync with the music the tubes that should go down to reveals the wonder seed dont and i'm stuck there. The fps arent the problem because i have 30 fps all level and they even increse After i get the flower for some reason but the game Just slows down.
Just saw that Super Mario Wonder scored a 93 on metacritic with excellent reviews, whereas Sonic Superstars scored mixed to favourable reviews . People were saying Sonic was released just within a week before mario hurting its sales implying it wouldn't stand a chance againt Mario Wonder ( Already knowing Mario Wonder was gonna be a better game ).
Pretty much most of the mainline Mario games have grand and epic true final boss fight. The entire game builds towards bowser's grandeur wonder that he tells us to wait. I was most definitely expecting a Super Mario Wonder Vs Bowser Wonder boss fight at the end after you defeat Bowser in his base stage.
I have been playing Mario Wonder this week, which is a superb platformer. While playing, I noticed a number of similarities to the DKC series (and even Returns). I wondered (heh) if I'm alone in this. Some are tentative and it may well all be coincidental, but among others:
