An offline reader (sometimes called an offline browser or offline navigator) is computer software that downloads e-mail, newsgroup posts or web pages, making them available when the computer is offline: not connected to a server.[a] Offline readers are useful for portable computers and dial-up access.

Website mirroring software is software that allows for the download of a copy of an entire website to the local hard disk for offline browsing. In effect, the downloaded copy serves as a mirror of the original site. Web crawler software such as Wget can be used to generate a site mirror.

Offline mail readers are computer programs that allow users to read electronic mail or other messages (for example, those on bulletin board systems) with a minimum of connection time to the server storing the messages. BBS servers accomplished this by packaging up multiple messages into a compressed file, e.g., a QWK packet, for the user to download using, e.g., Xmodem, Ymodem, Zmodem, and then disconnect. The user reads and replies to the messages locally and packages up and uploads any replies or new messages back to the server upon the next connection. Internet mail servers using POP3 or IMAP4 send the messages uncompressed as part of the protocol, and outbound messages using SMTP are also uncompressed. Offline news readers using NNTP are similar, but the messages are organized into news groups.

Most e-mail protocols, like the common POP3 and IMAP4 used for internet mail, need be on-line only during message transfer; the same applies to the NNTP protocol used by Usenet (Network news). Most end-user mailers, such as Outlook Express and AOL, can be used offline even if they are mainly intended to be used online, but some mailers such as Juno are mainly intended to be used offline.

Off-line mail readers are generally considered to be those systems that did not originally offer such functionality, notably on bulletin board systems where toll charges and tying up telephone lines were a major concern. Users of large networks such as FidoNet regularly used offline mail readers, and it was also used for UseNet messages on the internet, which is also an on-line system. The two most common formats for FidoNet BBS's were Blue Wave and QWK. Less well-known examples include Silver Xpress's OPX, XRS, OMEM, SOUP and ZipMail.

I've been using Moon+ Reader Pro on my Boox Nova 3 since I got it last year without any issues. Then about a month ago I updated the OS on the Nova for the first time since I got the device and now I can no longer use Moon+ Reader Pro offline. Whenever I open the app for the first time I get the error message "You're offline. Check Your connection or get a notification when you will be back online." I like to keep Wi-Fi off unless I'm importing new books onto the device because it leads to a significantly longer battery life, and I also sometimes use the Nova in areas where I don't have access to Wi-Fi. If I am in an area with Wi-Fi access I can turn Wi-Fi on and open the app and then once it's working turn Wi-Fi off and it will still work until the app quits but this isn't possible if I'm not in an area with an internet connection. If the app closes and I try to open it again I get the "You're offline" error message. Does anyone know why this is happening (or why it wasn't happening before), and if there's anyway to stop this? Thanks in advance.

I faced a similar issue on my site. Adobe's distribution process has changed. To resolve, visit Adobe's official distribution page after approval. Input credentials, choose the product language, and download the offline installer. The process ensures compliance with Adobe's new distribution policies for bulk installations on company PCs.

The Norton Ebook Reader supports offline reading on computers, tablets, and smartphones so that you can continue to access sections of your textbook where normal online connectivity through WiFi or cellular service may not be available. Highlights and annotations can also be accessed offline.

No. When you purchase an ebook from Norton, you are given access to an online, accessible version of the textbook in EPUB* format, not a downloadable file. You can choose to save parts of the textbook for offline reading through the new Norton Ebook Reader.

Offline reading uses storage built into internet browsers. This means that when you make parts of your ebook available for offline reading, you aren't downloading a file to your computer or mobile device.

Select the content you would like to make available for offline reading by selecting the button to the left of the chapter. You can also use the arrows to the right of the chapter title to view more detailed options when selecting content. Once you have finished selecting content, a progress bar will appear at the bottom of the page.

Please allow at least one minute for the content to appear in the Available Offline section of your ebook before going offline. If the selected content still does not appear after one minute has passed, please clear browser cache and try again.

Adobe Acrobat Reader DC is a free PDF reader program developed by Adobe Inc. for Windows, Mac and Android operating systems. The DC term present in its name stands for Document Cloud which is a cloud service provided by Adobe to allow users to work on their PDF documents from anywhere. It also allows users to access and save their files in various cloud storage platforms such as Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, Dropbox, etc.

I have 32-bit reader on my PCs which are not connected to net. When I download the adobe from get.adobe.com/reader/ it wants to connects to internet. in the setup folder there are no files which I can use to install on remote PCs.

With offline cache (also "edge cache") on the reader, access rights are cached on Kisi readers based on recent usage patterns. The Kisi reader will use these cached access rights before attempting to call the Kisi cloud. If the user is in the cache, an internet connection is not required. Currently, a reader's offline cache can cover internet outages for up to 36 hours, but this will be increased in future updates.

In the landlord scenario with mobile and physical credentials, access rights are cached on the Kisi controller, allowing offline access. Following the approach of the Kisi reader, a Kisi controller's offline cache is built based on recent usage patterns. The Kisi controller will use these cached access rights before sending an unlock request to the legacy controller.

When the Kisi controller is unable to re-establish an internet connection for five minutes, it goes into offline mode. In offline mode, the Kisi controller, via the Kisi reader, receives authenticated unlock requests from the Kisi app on the user's phone to authenticate with Kisi and unlock a door. This requires the phone to be online, as it needs to request an extended user-identifying certificate from the Kisi API. This certificate includes access permissions for the assigned door or elevator, and is valid for a short duration only, typically a few minutes. Renewal of this certificate occurs before each access attempt.

If you have pending offline payments, do not sign out of the Square appor delete the app from your iOS or Android device. Do not factory-reset the device used to take the payment. Make sure you process these payments by reconnecting your device to the internet within 24 hours.

You can accept offline payments when your customer taps or inserts a card with a Visa, Mastercard, American Express, JCB, or Discover logo and when your customer swipes a card with a UnionPay logo. Afterpay transactions, Square gift cards and EFTPOS-only cards will not work with Offline Mode.

The Square app requires an internet connection at all times to function properly. This can be either a Wi-Fi connection or a data service on your mobile device (such as 4G, 5G or EDGE). If your internet connection becomes interrupted or temporarily unavailable, you can accept payments during an offline session and upload them once you have an internet connection again.

There is additional risk with any offline payments you accept. Square is not responsible for any loss due to declined cards or expired payments taken while offline. In addition, Square can not contact any customers on your behalf should an offline payment be declined or expire.

In order for your team members to enable or disable offline payments, they will need to have the Configure Checkout Settings box checked in their permissions setting. Team members without this permission granted can still process offline payments, but will be unable to enable or disable offline payments.
