Has anyone worked with the Asus ultra compact Eee Box B202? When I
boot the machine, whether from CD, SD, or USB key, everything starts
perfectly until it tries to DHCP an address. It takes quite a while
and then starts scrolling UDP Checksum failure errors on the screen.
It comes up to the concerto viewer, but locks up shortly after. Also,
when I setup this machine in the screen section, I enter e0cb4e1a4363
for the client MAC but it changes the last two digits to 66 after I
hit submit. I can fix this in the database manually, but it won't
enter the address correctly for this mac.

I would guess that there is some issue with the Ethernet driver causing things to freeze. My guess is that it's a driver which tries to do some sort of hardware checksum acceleration in the Ethernet controller, which is obviously failing miserably in this case. If you can get as far as a shell, send me a copy of the "lsmod" output. If not, see if you can spot the name of the Ethernet driver anywhere else in the boot messages, or boot a generic live CD and run "lspci" and lsmod" and send me the output. I'll see what I can find out from there.

Here is the output.  This model has wired and wireless options, but we will be utilizing the wired option.

Thanks!!

I believe I found some information for you if that helps... In a
Ubuntu forum, it appears the appropriate driver is not included with
their distro. You have to get the drivers from the website.

Here is the forum.

Thanks for the input... I'll try to patch the modules and provide a new plugin file to you.

Still getting the UDP error.  I would like to try the wireless to see if that works.  Do you have instructions on how to set this up?

Did you make sure to remove the old plugin from your boot medium?

There are environment variables to set for wireless configuration. I will write some documentation on those a bit later and send it over.

Without having the hardware, it won't be too easy for me to troubleshoot the jme driver issue. As far as wireless goes, once you've got supported hardware installed, you need to do a couple of things:

1. Tell the startup scripts which specific network interface you want to use. If you can run ifconfig from a shell on the box, you'll be able to get the interface identifier (something like eth0, eth1, wlan1, or ath0) from there. If not, you can specify the interface to use by its MAC address. These are set in config.pl: set the ETHERNET_CARD variable if you know the identifier, or CARD_MAC otherwise. Even if you do know the identifier, you may want to use the CARD_MAC setting, as it will be immune to the numbering changing if another card is later added for some reason.

2. Specify your wireless network configuration. Currently, only WEP and WPA-PSK are supported. (Unencrypted networks are unsupported right now - whoops!) To specify the network parameters, set the WIRELESS_SSID, WIRELESS_ENCRYPTION, and WIRELESS_PSK variables in config.pl. WIRELESS_SSID should be set to the SSID of the wireless network, i.e. "rpi_concerto" here at RPI. WIRELESS_ENCRYPTION should be set to "wep" if WEP is being used, or "wpa-psk" if WPA-PSK is being used. WIRELESS_PSK should be set to the value of the wireless pre-shared key, in hexadecimal-digit form for WEP or ASCII form for WPA-PSK.

Finally, if you need to set a static IP on your wireless network, set the STATIC_IP, STATIC_NETMASK, STATIC_GATEWAY, and STATIC_DNS variables. These should be fairly self-explanatory.

If you run into trouble, check the output from iwconfig, ifconfig -a, dmesg, lspci, and lsmod to determine if the necessary drivers are being loaded, and if the interface is being detected. Try configuring the interface manually using those commands to determine if that's possible, or if there are driver issues. Wireless on Linux is sometimes tricky, especially with certain hardware, so expect some minor obstacles...

Ok, I've officially given up on the Eee Box B202. There is something
wonky with the network interfaces. I ended up ordering an Acer Aspire
R1600. I recieved it today, hooked it up, put my SD card in and next
thing I know I'm online and off to the races.

Thank you so much for your help, but I'm afraid the B202 might be a
lost cause...
