Hello everyone,

I'm in the process of setting up a digital signage solution for my University Campus. To avoid building a system from scratch, I've decided to use Concerto as a base. However, I've noticed that the last update for Concerto was quite some time ago.

I'm reaching out to see if anyone is still actively maintaining Concerto or if there are any existing efforts to update the Ruby version it runs on. My university's IT policy does not allow running such an old Ruby version on their servers, so I need to ensure that the platform is up-to-date.

Has anyone managed to run Concerto with a newer Ruby version, or is anyone using it on a semi-large scale who could offer some guidance? Your help would be greatly appreciated!

Best regards,

Nemo

We're in a bit of a pickle right now. The current version of Concerto uses a ton of outdated libraries.

I've spent a few hours trying to bring it up to date in the rails5 branch, but haven't been able to get enough features functioning to comfortably release it. We made a few choices building out a plugin system that aren't particularly compatible with all the changes Rails has made over the past ~10 years.

In my spare time, I've been very slowly tinkering on a "fresh" version of Concerto designed to be much simpler to maintain: https://github.com/bamnet/concerto-fresh/. I've got scaffolds working for ~all the models (minus auth), and I plan to start adding some UI and bringing the Vue-based Frontend up to date next.  No fancy plugins, a simple set of "core" features, and a codebase that (optimistically) can be kept up to date with each Rails/Ruby release with only a weekend of work.

My day job is a bit busy right now, but I'd like to make progress this summer.  If anyone wants to help out, do let me know!
