hey everyone -

we're home prepping our work right now so we can start installing tomorrow morning - we can be in within 30mins, so just let us know when/if there is a space planning session.

thanks!

Jean should be there soon, but call Geraldine at: (0)6 98 02 50 54
She is fluent in English (and French, obv.)

James: RH assessed late last night that they will need all hands on deck for painting today at 3:30. Can you guys be there for that? We also discussed this morning having a weekend install plan-of-attack meeting this evening after working hours.

It is not looking good for being able to install first thing in the AM tomorrow. Painting will likely still be happening.

xo,
Sunita

Thanks, Nick!

I'm home right now, waiting for the washing machine man, and I'll be making a trip to the hardware store for paint-o-rama later today. Any special requests, beyond rollers, brushes, and plasticy smocks?

Hardware store requests -

we could use lots of US->Euro plug adapters - at least 7, maybe 10 or more...  Might be better to order online, especially if price is more than about 2-3 euro each.  Maybe more euro power strips? unless we can borrow more from the museum.

banana plugs, one pair, if they happen to have such a thing.  They look like this:

Are you two planning to build out your own room? Walls and projection wall?

Probably more efficient to use one euro->US plug and then a US power strip.

Hardware:
- box of 5,0x120 (200 vis) [screws],
- paint roller pads (large ones and some small foam ones),
- assortment of brushes (large + medium + small sizes),
- wood filler(not wood glue),
- metal L-brackets (80mm x 8mm)

Sweet! Thanks, Ben!

To you Francophones: any advice on purchasing wood filler? "Mastic" doesn't quite seem to be the right fit. Also, any recommendations on a hardware store that isn't BHV or Castorama? I'm pretty sure they won't have the screws we need...

Jean says wood filler is "mastic a bois"

It would be more efficient, but US power strips aren't rated for 220V and might burn up.

Excellent call, Sunita!

No trace of the washing machine man – I'm a bit concerned about holding the painting party hostage until after I arrive. I'll keep you guys posted as to when I leave so we can get this party started! If it ends up taking a long time, could we send someone else to buy the materials?

Ben, we are flattered by your question but we are "rabbit hands" over here :-) and feeling very much out of our depth building walls -- we've been trying to help in our own clumsy ways but we're not skilled/equipped for dealing with bigger construction or the medium/materials that you guys make art with.

so we are very thankful for the effort that rabid hands has made to accommodate us in their space but given the time crunch we are all in and the fact that we lack wall construction know-how to deal with the major lighting challenges that 4 super bright installs will produce in the interior space, we are going with plan B.

we'll take care of our install completely in the alcove behind the ship - we'll make sure to integrate it elegantly with the larger construction and we'll have a couple of our electric plants (vellum/LED constructions) poking through the wall into the interior space. only request is please don't paint the wood of the ship near there, we like it as it is - maybe the paint job degrades gracefully towards that wall?

we checked with geraldine this morning and we are getting exact dimensions for what we can and can't use back there.

see you soon!

We need "sawzaw" blades, also called a "reciprocating saw" here is a picture of the saw that we need the blades for:

We need 5 that are approximately 20-30 cm wood blades. Here are some examples:
