Hello Joe,
You have my sincere sympathy regarding this matter. I am the rather outspoken Canadian who sold my Mexico Beach property last year after 35 years of fighting City Hall and/or the "old boy's club" on one thing or another. Back in the 1980's I ended up with an 8 year court battle to maintain the integrity of my property from a land grab by a developer who tresspassed on our property and fenced us off from the adjoining canal. He intended to use the canal as a run off basin for a sewage system for his yet to be built hotel. After 8 years of misery, intimidation and expense, a jury unanimously ruled in our favor. At every turn that person was favored by the city powers that be, the Judges involved and the original developer of Mexico Beach who was shown to have committed purjury numerous times during the court case (but never even had his hand slapped by his buddy, the
Judge). The result was we got to keep our property intact and enjoy the clear spring-fed water and wildlife adjoining our property BUT had to sell an adjoining lot to pay the legal expenses the judges forced on us even though we won the case. Was it worth it? In retrospect, No.
There is no common sense in the mentality of the ruling powers in Mexico Beach. They try to run the place with visions of grandeur as if it's a metropolis with unlimited taxpayer funds rather than a beautiful low-key seaside town with limited funds and small taxpayer base.
It would appear that attitudes there have not changed much over the past 35 years. I wish you luck.
