Thereis a Payloader called an IH Hough (or Huff) 540 on ebay and is looks OK except for a thrown rod. I am contemplating getting it but not if the hauling costs are exorbitant. If it was 8 ft wide I'm pretty sure my buddy with a lowboy would haul it for around $1200 max but I'm assuming it is more like 12 ft wide. Does anyone know the road rules on wide loads? Would he have to get a permit from each of 5 states to haul it? Dude hasn't given me the width yet but says it has an IH engine in it of about 300 HP, Probably the same engine as in a TD25 I would guess. I could most likely get a rod for that. Strange that a tractor engine would throw a rod at 1800 RPM. Must have ran out of oil. Cummins transplant possibilities.
It don't look to be Bigger than 966 Cat and they haul on 8 wide lowboy with side runners and without if you are brave Back when was young and foolish I loaded one over the Back(across tires) and would NOT do that again on a dare (No KoO we had all the dinosaurs killed by then)
hI RC Yer in luck if you get that machine, a 540 has a DT466 rated at 200 HP, I'll check my brochures for the specs, I have one on that machine. 466 parts are cheap & available everywhere. Working on an H-80B at the shop right now, it's the model before the 540 & shouldn't be a problem to haul anywhere. Good Luck, Russ
He can probably give you some ideas what to do, or how to go about getting it broken down and loaded. Really shouldn't be od for the trouble of removing wheels and buckets. Just has to be gotten down to 102 wide, so that's only 7 inches narrower than what it is now.
I saw one go thru town the other day. Not something you see every day, an IH front end loader on a lowboy. This thing was huge, I couldn't get close enuf to get all the model #'s but 9xx sticks in my head. They had taken the cab off the loader and had it setting on the gooseneck of the drop deck lowboy. They had a car in front and one in back as it was quite wide.
It is located in fairfield NJ which is only a few miles west of NYCity, probably 1200 miles from Jonesburg Mo. I now am pursueing a JD350 which is only 30 miles from Jonesburg. Going to look at it tomorrow. Costs a little more and is hardly half the size but doesn't have a thrown rod. I need something to put my JD backhoe on. Don't worry, it's not a green one.
Sawmill, if you would just take off with it you would be depending on all the weight stations being closed and the highway patrols of 5 states on siesta. If you know when this happens load the 24 and bring it. I have a few bucks left.
At 114 inches, no thanks. Wouldn't mind doing if for 100 miles but not 1000. In any case I'm broke now, just blew reserve cash on a (you'll pardon the expression) JD 350 with a 6 way blade. Will name it "puddle jumper" . It is so tiny compared to the TD24... will have to get a pic of them together next spring. Like father and son. Don't need a ladder to get in this one.
