  Marshall Kirk McKusick contributed this interesting piece to the ACM Queue:

Disks from the Perspective of a File System  - Disks lie. And the controllers that run them are partners in crime.

  Concise and very interesting. Looks at how the underlying disk abstractions changes (Sector size, TCQ/NCQ) make an impact, positive or negative, on the filesystems laid on them - quite worth the read!
