Hello Computing Performance,
At Ubuntu Developer Summit, I just learned of a new bit of shell
benching wizardry (or aspiring to be one):

http://judge.readthedocs.org/en/latest/index.html

Judge compares the run time for two programs and tells you if there’s
a statistically significant difference.

This is very early work, but I like where this seems headed. Related,
but not as convenient is the older BSD utility Ministat, which
performs a similar analysis on raw statistical data, but does not
spawn the test runs for you:

http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi?query=ministat&apropos=0&sektion=0&manpath=FreeBSD+8-current&format=html

Best -Federico
