+ Work Life BalanceWork Life Balance is not at all a new phrase, especially for
the corporate world people. Sometime or the other, you would
have complained about the work life imbalance. However, before
the current situation, you may not have ever realized what
*really* is a work life imbalance.
Earlier your work and personal life were sort of balanced by
the separation of the boundaries of office and home. With the
current situation, those boundaries have totally vanished. And
you have lost track of what is office and what is home -
paving the path to the real work life imbalance.
In my opinion, the culprit behind the imbalance, both earlier
and now is the same - there is no difference because of the
current situation. I know, very often, we blame our managers,
work load, current situation, and what not for the imbalance.
But if we think deeper, we would find that it is our inability
of time management, which is the culprit.
If we would have learnt drawing lines between work and
personal time from the day one of our career life, this
situation would have never arose. But no, when bachelors we
would like to put extra hours (not necessarily extra effort)
hoping to get a better pay and faster promotion, which again
in my opinion is just an illusion. And as we proceeded further
in personal life, it demanded for bringing the office hours to
what they were supposed to be. And that became a big shock to
our already distorted hours. That is where all the story of
work life imbalance came to notice - though it has started
from the day one itself.
I personally had ensured this balance from day one of my
career - out of office and office work, after office hours.
And I have never realized any work life imbalance till date.
So, it is a strong message to those young blood, don't spoil
your future life - be punctual not only in going to office,
but in coming out of it as well. And you'd realize that there
is so much more in life to do apart from just office work.
And for those, who are already entangled in this imbalance,
this lockdown is an excellent opportunity for you to set it
right. Set an alarm to start your work, and a louder alarm to
stop it, everyday. It is upto you as what time to start and
stop, but ensure that the duration is fixed, and you abide by
the alarms. Learn communicating that your office time is up.
Remember that the corporate world has been running without you
and would keep running even without you. You should work for
yourself, not for the corporate world. No one other than you
can set it right.
