In general, we read some numbers from left to right, and some others from right to left. For example, the counting numbers, say 143 is read from left to right as one hundred and forty three. But the numbers involved in time, say 4:05 is read from right to left as five past four. Now, Sanskrit has all these number reading unified as always right to left.
