Computer blinks when changing User

I have a HP P6000 desktop with a Dell monitor.  It has worked great for years.  Now I have a problem.  When I change from one user to another user, the screen blinks for a couple of minutes.  I have to hit either ctrl alt del or Esc to stop it.  Then it eventually comes back to normal.

Any suggestions?
