Dear all,

I enjoyed very much participating in the 2011 JAIST Cup Game Algorithm
Competitions. Here is a brief and non-official report.

In the 13x13 Go tournament (komi 7.5, 30 mins SD),
1.Zen
2.Erica
3.Aya

Zen lost only one game (to ManyFaces) and won all the other games. Erica
lost to Zen in the final match, which is an interesting and semeai-exciting
game, and Professorr Marumatsu. Aya lost to Zen, Erica and Marumatsu, but
beat Many Faces 2 games. Many Faces beat Zen by killing a big group.

An interesting point of this 13x13 Go tournament is the participation of the
human players. Professor Marumatsu is a KGS 5d player. The games he played
with Zen, Erica, Aya and Many Faces...etc indicate that the playing strength
of current strong Go programs on 13x13 is around 4d-5d. The only program
that beat Marumatsu is Zen.nd

In the 9x9 Go tournament, human players have to guess the opponent is a
program or human player. This is interesting. For example, in the game I
played with Marumatsu, both of us guessed the opponent is a program. :)

Finally, Zen won and proved itself to be the program "having most humanity".

Another tournament is Poje, a famous game in Japan. I didn't participate so
can't say much about it.

Aja
