SUTROFOR - Sustainable Tropical Forestry
We offer an integrated two-year world-class Masters Course in Sustainable Tropical Forestry (SUTROFOR) based on our long experience in teaching and research, and building on masters programmes that have proved to be dynamic and viable. By joining the teaching and research experiences of five European leading educational institutions, this unique Course will constitute an in-depth educational programme with inherent impetus to stay at the forefront of research-based teaching strongly linked to realities in many European and non-European countries.

The SUTROFOR Course is offered by a consortium consisting of five institutions: (i) University of Copenhagen, Centre for Forest, Landscape and Planning, Copenhagen, Denmark, (ii) University of Wales, School of the Environment and Natural Resources, Bangor, Wales, UK, (iii) Technische Universität Dresden, institute of international Forestry and Forest Products, Germany, (iv) AgroParisTech-ENGREF, Institute of Forestry, Agricultural and Environmental Engineering, Montpellier – France, and (v)
University of Padova, Faculty of Agriculture, Padova, Italy.

The Course consists of a first study year at one of three institutions (Bangor, Copenhagen, Dresden) and a specialising second study year with different topics offered by each of the five institutions. The students are required to spend the second year at another university than the first one. The aim of the first study year is to provide a thorough and broad introduction to sustainable Tropical Forestry. The learning outcomes are similar for the three first year institutions and allow students to choose freely among the five specialisation options in the second year. The first study year ends with a Joint Summer Module, run as a two-weeks excursion to a Tropical country. You can specialise in the second year within the following topics: (i) Agroforestry systems (Bangor), (ii) Socio-economics of tropical forestry (Copenhagen), (iii) Tropical forest management (Dresden), (iv) Environmental management and policies for tropical forests (Montpellier), (v) Ethics in forestry and responsible trade in tropical forest product and services (Padova). The specialisation includes a master thesis based on research and fieldwork inside or outside the EU. When students have acquired 120 ECTS by studying at two Consortium institutions (at least 60 ECTS at each) they will obtain a SUTROFOR double degree and the Diploma Supplement. All SUTROFOR modular activities can be completed in English, except the second year option at Montpellier, which is available mainly in French. The following degrees are awarded: MSc in Tropical Forestry in Copenhagen, MSc in Environmental  tropical Forestry and MSc in Agroforestry in Bangor, MSc in Tropical Forestry in Dresden, MSc in Agricultural Sciences, specialisation Tropical and Rural Forestry in Montpellier, and MSc in Forestry and Environmental Sciences in Padova.
