I truly wonder what idiots run CompuServe. Listen to this:

On January 18th 2000 all of a sudden we could no longer send email through
our pop3 CompuServe accounts in outlook. We were able to receive but not
send.

I tried it on five (!) different machines with three different access
methods. No go!
We could receive but not send (Server Error 550 access denied). The accounts
are all in good standing.

I'm a member for over 15 years with CompuServe but recently (since AOL
bought it?) they become grossly incompetent in every aspect. Because so many
people have my email address which we use for business we didn't bother,
though a bit inconvenient, to cancel the accounts. (I should have done so!)
We use them only for email; we converted a year or so ago the account
numbers to a pop email accessible one. Everything worked fine until Jan.
18th 2000.

Now fasten your seatbelt! This is unbelievable! Hear this:

On January 21st I finally got through to their notorious stinking lame so
called "Tech Support".
The answers I got could have been given by a three year old mentally
disabled kid:

1. I can't use outlook
2. My computer is incompatible with CompuServe (no comment.!)
3. I need to reconfigure my computer
4. I have to use CompuServe 2000
5. I must use CompuServe dialup numbers

Sheesh! Are they for real!?!?

After debating and arguing for some lengthy time I got a supervisor, who
after a while, admitted, yes, they changed something! She gave me an invalid
link to reconfigure pop settings in outlook:
http://www.compuserve.com/communications/openrelay.asp
I never was able to get a hold of her again.

After some futile attempts I got through again to their "Tech Support".
The answer was:

1. I have to use CompuServe 2000
2. I must use CompuServe dialup numbers

All of a sudden? Install their software, use their numbers? What is this?
We write the year 2000 and they come up with this nonsense???

I call such business practice intimidating, coercing to say the least. They
must be out of their mind! They can go to hell and stay there rotting!

Today I will cancel all CompuServe accounts we have.

Your comments are welcome.
