Emails and calls to Cannon technical support have not helped. After two rounds of the typical "reinstall...", they sent some patch, which did not help. This seems to be a known problem in user reports and the Cannon support staff, but no solutions.
It works until the next reboot. I keep the Services app pinned to my task bar with Name sorted in reverse order so I can quickly get to the WIA service. I have uninstalled/reinstalled with the latest drivers and software and nothing else works for me.
Is the scanner connected directly to a USB port on the laptop or motherboard? Since you have already investigated the software route, have you tried replacing the cable and testing on a different port?
Desktop, usb via hub. I don't see how it is hardware, since it works fine always after reboot for a day+, and then fails. I can try moving the connection after a failure, but hardware wouldn't give that symptom i don;t think.
Hi Guthrie. I see that you are getting a TWAIN driver error (80FF0001) when you try to use your imageFORMULA R40 and you have installed the patch we sent you. If you did not reach out to us after installing the patch, please call us at 1-800-652-2666, Monday - Friday 8:00 A.M. - 8:00 P.M. ET (excluding holidays). If you have already contacted us, we recommend that you check with your computer's manufacturer. We have seen that security programs may interfere with the TWAIN driver, so if you have any running, you can contact the company that makes that software. Thanks for your contributions to the community.
I would like to see some logging information from your tool, or some resolution of the actual error message. So far I have only gotten generic responses - Reinstall, try this patch, update, maybe it is hardware (which symptoms do not match), ...
I am having the same problem, however re-booting does not work for me. What did work for a few days was moving the usb cable to another usb port, but now that does not work. So my scanner is useless for now.
I have an R40 scanner for a year or two years and I recently changed my computer, which is a Samsung Book 4 Edge. I tried to install it exactly as it says in the manual, but even though I connect it to the computer, restart it, or try it in various w...

I've been using my Canon Scanner for a couple of years with zero problems, until recently. I'm using a Windows 10 Pro version PC. The info I see says it will run on XP/Win 7/Win 8....Yet it ran fine on my Win 10. Is there anywhere I can get the4 driv...
I have a computer running Windows 11 ver 22H2. I download the 9000F MarkII Scanner Driver Ver. 1.02 (Windows) from -9000f-mark-ii. Under the "More download info" link it says support for Windows 11 was adde...
Hello everyone,I'm currently facing an issue with changing the output file name from a barcode detection zone in CaptureOnTouch V5 Pro. The software scans the whole barcode correctly, but I can't seem to find a way to instruct it to drop the first 5 ...
I have had a Canoscan 9000F since they were first introduced. I have used it successfully for many years, but find myself without the scanning software because the last PC it was installed on, crashed. Now the scanner is not supported and unless I ...
Hi, I have my scanner setup but need some help with what software is needed to actually read the barcode and save the barcode number as a .pdf file tag. I've read about a bar code module needed. I've installed the software Capture On Touch V4 Pro th...
Hi.I just bought a CanoScan 9000F mark ii and it works great except one thing. I bought the scanner used and the previus owner had lost the film racks. So i made one out of cardboard (it didn't scan without anything blocking the light). The problem n...
I recently got a new Canon 400 LiDE scanner. It did not come with a USB type A to USB type C cable, instead it came with a USB type A to mini USB cable, which does not fit the port. I am using my own USB A to C cable which I owned previously.I am usi...
Although the information in next link from Apple pertains to AirPrint compatible Printers / Scanners - the same type of Network Connection is required to the two devices to see and communicate with each other
Do try the demo version of VueScan . I used it on my very old Canon scanner with Ventura and earlier systems. I like it better than the apps that came with my scanners. You don't need to get the subscription version as the subscription only gets you compatibility with new scanners. Once you have it for your Canon you won't need the updates.
Thanks. I was on the phone to Canon for an hour or so earlier. They couldn't find any logical explanation and told me to contact Apple. I've tried two different Apple technicians and they couldn't help either. Told me to go back to Canon. So I'm basically going round in circles.
Hi, and thanks for your reply. I did resort to photographing, but I need the scanner to create handouts for my classes, and the quality of a photographed document isn't good enough. Also, the file size seems to be much much bigger than a classic scan.
Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm having the same issue so will save time going to Apple and Canon support. My workaround was scanning to card and then uploading that to my MacBook. A bit of a hassle but it worked. If you find out more, without buying new printer, please share! (I'm with you, that 2.4gHz band business is hurting my head. I just plug in!)
I have tried EVERY "fix it" I've found on Google and nothing is working. I've changed my computer to Power Saver battery option -- didn't work. Changed the suspension on the USB port...didn't work. Yes, I'm using a 3.0 USB port on a Dell Inspiron 17 5000 series laptop. I have Windows 10 and I think that's the #1 problem --- Windows 10.
I've installed two different drivers that's supposed to work... didn't. I've installed it via the CD-ROM, didn't work...uninstalled and re-installed via the website... didn't work. Nothing is working.
Should I just return the scanner and go with a different brand of product? I already have trouble with my Canon MG3500 series printer so.. I should have known better than to buy a Canon portable scanner.
Since the LiDE 400 uses the USB connection both for communication and for power, try plugging in the laptop to external power when using the scanner. Usage of the USB connection when running on battery power can reduce the electricity (and thus also the USB signal strength).
My problem is slightly different in that I am not using a laptop and so your suggestion is of no help to me. Also it was working fine for months and I was in the middle of scanning and it just stopped.
I finally returned my LiDE 400. Hoping they fulfill a refund. It just absolutely was not compatible with Windows 10, no matter what they said. I even posted a review telling others with Windows 10 to steer clear of the product and of course, they deleted it. I've had it with Canon.. the customer service has been horrendous, the products are getting worse as years go by.
Some of the LiDE 400 devices had the scan bar installed backwards and were not caught before they left the manufacturer.
if you plug it in and when it finishes warming up, the scan bar is at the tail end (where the usb connects) this is what the problem is
Return it for exchange if you can or call support and if you still have reciept they will ship a replacement.
same problem here with my LiDE 300: the scan bar at rest is not at the button end but at the tail. I wonder if Canon could confirm this is part of a defective batch and return is for free, even if past the warranty.
I had the same problem and after some experimentation found that uninstalling all the scanning software and drivers and then reinstalling after a reboot my scanner started working again. Hope this helps someone
I have a scanner with the scan bar at the tail end. When I plug it in, the scan bar moves to the front, flashes when going back 1 inch, and then returns to the previous position (tail end). I don't have a warranty on this one and would appreciate any hints. Thanks.
MF227dw has been great for windows 7 as a network printer and scanner. After moving to windows 10 all printer functions work fine but I cannot figure out a way to get my scanner driver installed. Windows won't even recognize a scanner is available for use. Have tried a few things including disabling windows ability to choose a default printer as well as installing and uninstalling the toolbox software several times. Any help would be appreciated
Have installed the latest drivers as of today and the supposed "patch" which comes up as an empty box that seemed to fix nothing. Please look into this Canon the product worked so great on Win 7 =( itd be a shame to have to get a new device when this is not even a year old but I need scan functions.
HAVING SAME PROBLEM WITH IMAGECLASS MF4890DW. DRIVER INSTALL FAILS AT SCANNER. I CAN SCAN TO MY LAPTOP VIA USB BUT CAN'T DO IT WIRELESSLY LIKE I COULD PRE WINDOWS 10. I HAVE INSTALLED NEW FIRMWARE ON PRINTER, LATEST DRIVERS AS FAR AS I CAN GO, SCAN TOOLBOX, PATCH...
Since the printer drivers install, there may be a program preventing the scanner drivers from installing. I suggest you place the computer in a Selective Start Up (see steps below), then uninstall and re-install the drivers (including the Patch for Network Scan, USB Scan) from our web site while in Selective Start Up to resolve your issue.
I suggest someone at Canon needs to try installing the scanner driver over network (not USB) using Windows 10 x64 with all Windows updates installed. I can reproduce this issue on more than one computer.
Hard to believe my thread has been viewed 1800+ times and still no fix one year later. I have a large number of offices which translate to a large number of future devices which will not have the name Canon on them thats for sure.
