Ohhh, great stuff, Paul! Let me know when you get your ebook up over there--I'd love to interview you for my site on this.
I've been extremely curious myself about the e-reader/ebook scene in China. As huge as that population is, it seems like a market waiting to be tapped. They say entertainment is one of the last things America exports that anybody wants. :P
I'm not too familiar with China, but it would definitely be worth looking into. Thailand is the one that interests me the most, because I live here. But, in reality there's only 65 million people and only the educated and the wealthy speak English. I should do a post on this at a later time
I think the biggest gold mine has got to be India. It's the world's biggest English-speaking country.
Another Thailand-based publisher that currently published (only) e-books is Bangkok Book House. They use to publish quite a few paperbacks / month, but I guess that's too expensive now.
I had a look at the AisaBooks e-store and I think it looks promising. Unfortunately, the cheaper e-books are listed right at the bottom of the page.
There's also another e-book (self)publishing website at thailandebooks dot com.
I think you might be right regarding India, the question is, have e-readers become available? And, most importantly, are they affordable to the everyday Indian reader?
Bangkokbooks.com is offering authors a 70% or 100% royalty option on ebooks with worldwide distribution. Author can choose distribution channels and sets ebook price. Optionally, books can also be printed and distributed with Thailand. Company is now changing name to booksmango.com
Hi. I have a book listed on the bookstore. I can see that it is listed & priced in 51 countries. My friend in Thailand wants to buy it, but Thailand does not appear on the list. He is unable to find the book using the Books app on his Mac.
Thanks. I hate to email a copy because this is a military audience; everyone knows everyone; and once someone gets a copy not protected by DRM, I can just see the free copies starting to fly all around the world.
The ebook currently is on all 51 of Apple stores, plus all of Amazon's global stores. (plus paperback via Amazon). Neither serves Thailand (or Philippines, where a lot of military retirees live). What other digital alternatives are there that would provide DRM? I would love global distribution! I have 14,000 followers on social media in every country of the world. I would love to reach them all!
As far as I understand, when I purchase from Amazon, the ebook installs directly into my Kindle reader. I'm not quite sure how to separate the file from the app, and even if I did, it ought to be unreadable -- which is the whole point of DRM.
Likewise with Apple ebooks -- they install directly into my Books app and I read them there. It could easily be that I have no understanding of the process, but if people can email my book around, I would be quite disappointed in the digital protection that I thought I had.
Please note: The ebooks available to purchase from Rough Guides online bookshop are typically anywhere between 30MB and 120MB. We recommend that you download your ebook over WiFi or check your data allowance with your mobile network provider to ensure it is sufficient.
This smartphone growth in Vietnam has enabled companies like Wattpad to develop a large user base in Vietnam, relatively speaking, compared with other indigenous companies such as local ebooksellers Alezaa and Sachweb.
