Cool that you show interest in CompoMaster :) I have considered continuing
implementation on it. Time is the problem.

Anyway, can you give me a short summary or link to info on what Swiss
tournament system is?

Also, are there not any other free software that supports this, like for
instance challenge.com?

Hey there

i have been looking for a free software but there seems there are
plenty of these programs but they for chess tournaments and they need
stuff like FIDE rating, which side of the board a player is startign
on ect, but i am looking to use it to run CoD4 COmpetitions (which
compomaster has been the core of for a couple years now)

as for a link on it
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swiss-system_tournament

best i could find

thanks for the reply sorry i am taking so long to reply

but great work still

Ok i see. Well I'll look into it when I get time. ...Don't know when that
will be though :)

Do you do any programming yourself by the way? I'm considering publishing it
as open source

i do not unfortunatly, always wanted too never got my but ingear
that swiss when you looking at it, it can be a simple form of swiss,
randomized first round, the rest of the rounds as per the wiki, no
ratings (maybe have an option to be able to say based on ratings or
not) no ratings gains (cause we use it for cod4 once a month
tounaments we don't need ratings, not sure about anyone else, ability
to define the number of rounds, and then maybe a playoffs of single
elim like you have done with the groups being able to be used to make
the single elim tournament

hope i am making sense,
open source would be great if there are people willing to work on it.

Thanks for even considering it haha.

I don't think it should be too hard to implemented it, but it will of
course take some time. I have a couple of other projects i want to
finish first :p So yea, I can't really promise anything.

That said, I have testes the swiss system at www.challonge.com now,
and it seems pretty ok to me. Have you tried this? (I wrote wrong URL
in the first post). I suppose it won't support playoff, but I'm not
sure. Also, I'm not sure how a playoff would work with swiss system -
it seems to me it's designed to decide a winner, so why would you want
a playoff?

basically playoff would just be like top 8 after so many rounds or something like that scaling on ho wmany people you have left, the swiss system is primarily designed to get an outright winner but secondly is to make the pairing more "fair"
