Dear Colleagues:

This is the first announcement of the ninth Midwestern Workshop on Asymptotic Analysis which will take place at Indiana University in Bloomington, October  11 – 13, 2024. The MWAA aims to foster cooperation among mathematicians in certain areas of analysis represented in the midwest and specifically near the state of Indiana, including approximation theory, mathematical physics, operator theory, potential theory, and complex analysis.  We encourage young mathematicians -- current PhD students, recent graduates, and post-docs -- to participate in our conference. The conference series is partially funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and pending final approval of this year’s grant, we should be able to cover traveling and lodging expenses for graduate students from Indiana or nearby states and possibly other participants who apply for reimbursement by registration (opening soon) on our web site http://mwaa.math.indianapolis.iu.edu/ .  Participants other than speakers should arrange their own lodging; the web site lists some hotels and other local information. We would appreciate if you could help us to disseminate information about the workshop by printing and posting our poster (also available on the web site) at your department.

The conference will begin with a keynote address by Kelly Bickel of Bucknell University on Friday, October 11 from 4:00PM to 5:00PM.  Saturday’s program will consist of a poster session and coffee at 9AM followed by seven 40 minute talks beginning at 9:40AM while Sunday's program will consist of a poster session and coffee at 9AM followed by three 40 minute talks beginning at 9:40AM and ending at noon.  The full list of scheduled speakers is:

Kelly Bickel (associate professor, Bucknell University; colloquium speaker)

Adam Christopherson (post-doc, Baylor University)

Carrie Clark (post-doc, UIUC)

Christina Giannitsi (post-doc, Vanderbilt University)

Lawford Hatcher (PhD student, Indiana University)

Liudmyla Kryvonos (post-doc, Vanderbilt University)

Vlassis Mastrantonis (PhD student, U. of Maryland)

Ryan Matzke (post-doc, Vanderbilt University)

Nick McCleery (assistant professor, Purdue University)

Donggeun Ryou (post-doc, Indiana University)
Ashley Zhang (post-doc, Vanderbilt University)

Further information about the workshop is available on our website:
