Preparingfor your theory test goes hand in hand with learning to drive, and it will help you improve your practical skills if you revise and learn your driving theory concurrently alongside your driving lessons.

Make sure you read about each of these topics individually. Try to gain firm background knowledge in these areas before attempting to tackle some practice questions. It is important that your preparation allows you to learn in detail about these topics, rather than simply trying to memorise the questions. Knowing and understanding driving theory in detail is essential for any safe driver.

While it might be tempting to attempt to pass your driving theory test before starting your driving lessons, this will inhibit your learning as some of the questions in the test are related to practical driving skills, so make sure you are developing your practical skills alongside learning your theory.

Once you are settled and ready for your test, you will be given comprehensive instructions about the test and have the opportunity to run through a practice version of the multiple-choice questions. You will then have a total of 57 minutes to complete the theory section which consists of 50 multiple-choice questions (including three questions based on a video clip). The questions will appear on the screen one at a time with four possible answers. It is a touch-screen system so simply press your selected answer on the screen.

There are five case study questions in the theory section which are designed to test you on your ability to respond effectively to a real-life driving situation so that you know how to apply your theory knowledge when you are driving. The questions can be on a range of driving situations, so make sure you are thinking through your theory knowledge during your driving lessons.

You will be required to view 14 video clips from the perspective of the driver which runs through various scenarios that involve other vehicles as well as pedestrians. Keep your eyes peeled for developing hazards as the test assesses your ability to notice potential dangers and respond to them in good time.

The aim is to click your mouse as soon as you see the hazard developing, and you will score more points the sooner you click. The maximum score for each video is five points. This decreases the longer you take to respond. You will score no marks if you miss the hazard completely. Make sure you stay alert after identifying one developing hazard in a video clip as one of the videos in your test will contain two hazards. The pass mark is 44 out of 75.

There are 50 driving theory questions in the test, which are drawn from a bank of over 1,000. These are selected based on the information in the Highway Code. You have 57 minutes to complete them and you need 43 correct theory test answers to pass (which comes to 86%).

Of course, everybody is different and the hardest theory questions for one person might be a piece of cake for another. For example, you might have a great visual memory and nail questions about the meaning of road signs every time, but someone else may have a good head for numbers and easily remember everything to do with stopping distances.

Note: There are 1000+ questions in the DVSA theory test question bank, and your 57 minute theory exam will contain 50 multiple choice questions, of which you must score 43 correct to pass. The following revision guide is a close resemblance of the style of questions and answers you can expect and they will help you to pass as they will give you an idea of what to expect. The answers to the UK theory test can all be found in: -

D. Continuous solid double white line (Centre line) which vehicles must not drive over, across or astride except to enter a side road, unless prohibited from doing so by appropriate signage.

The Highway Code - Traffic Signs Signs with blue circles but no red border mostly give positive instruction. Blue circles will usually give compulsory instructions such as: vehicles may pass either side to reach the same destination, mini-roundabout (give way to traffic from the immediate right) or proceed in the direction indicated by the arrow:

Motorists must stop behind the line at a junction where a stop sign is in place with a solid white line. It is law that a driver must stop at least once before the line and wait for a safe gap before proceeding.

B. Continuous solid double white line (Centre line) which vehicles must not drive over, across or astride except to enter a side road, unless prohibited from doing so by appropriate signage.

D. Give an arm signal

in an emergency, you will brake hard on the footbrake, which most likely will cause skidding on a wet road. To have a better control of your vehicle, you should keep both of your hands on the steering wheel.

Speed kills - The relationship between speed and injury severity is particularly critical for vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and cyclists. For example, pedestrians have been shown to have a 90% chance of survival when struck by a car travelling at 30 km/h (18 mph) or below, but less than 50% chance of surviving an impact at 45 km/h (28 mph). Pedestrians have almost no chance of surviving an impact at 80 km/hr (50 mph).

No, it only runs under Windows, however you can run Windows on an Intel-based Mac using Bootcamp or Parallels if you wish to do so. Although there is no Mac version, there is an App iOS version and a version for Android.

A person who is disqualified may undergo a driving theory test in respect of the categories AM or BW. Persons seeking a test in the higher categories (Truck, Bus, CPC, ADI) may only undergo the test when they hold a valid driving licence in category B and they thus cannot undergo the test when disqualified.

Persons who have passed the theory test in categories AM or BW while disqualified may subsequently have the certificate accepted if presented within the validity period and with a valid application for a learner permit.

Any attempts to cheat that contravene this secure and fair environment are reported immediately to the Road Safety Authority.

If an incident of cheating occurs, it will be reviewed on a case by case basis. On foot of the review, a non-testing period may be applied to a candidate. During this period, the candidate is not permitted to book or sit a Driver Theory Test.

There is both an accent and a sneadh fada command on a keyboard/smart device that are coded differently but look exactly the same to a user. If one is used on the registration process and then the other is used to look up the online score report there will be a mismatch. Please ensure to use the correct version of an accent or a sneadh fada when registering and when trying to look up the online version of your score report.

If within two years of passing the full Bus Driver Theory Test the candidate decides they would like to be able to drive a truck also, they can sit the Truck Module Theory Test, meaning that they do not need to sit the full Truck Driver Theory Test.
