I was downloading a movie torrent with a large avi file which has been stuck at 99.8% for weeks and weeks with 1 seed and 50 plus peers so I decided to forget it and downloaded another copy of the movie.
uTorrent often fails to download files and gets stuck on connecting to peers due to interference from your antivirus, your ISP blocking torrent downloads, incorrect uTorrent client settings, or the torrent file itself is dead. What should you do to fix this issue?
To fix uTorrent not downloading files or getting stuck on connecting to peers, you can whitelist uTorrent in Windows Firewall or your antivirus settings, unblock restrictions set by your ISP, fix issues with trackers, enable a VPN, or tweak the uTorrent client settings. When everything else fails, switching to another torrent client is always possible.
The download process may also get stuck or stop if the destination drive for the file being downloaded by uTorrent runs out of storage. The problem is more likely to occur when downloading large files sized at hundreds of GBs.
There may be a problem with some torrent tracker servers that cannot keep track of available seeds and peers, resulting in peers getting stuck on connecting. Therefore, you should rule out tracker issues. To do this, select the file that is stuck on downloading and go to the Trackers tab.
If none of the fixes above resolve the issue, you should run the uTorrent network configuration test, which will configure the uTorrent client to provide the best performance. In most cases, it increases the download speed but may also resolve stuck downloading problems.
Seeders or peers must be active for uTorrent clients to establish connections with them. When they are inactive or become inactive during the download process, the client will definitely get stuck, causing the download to stop.
Downloads would get stuck at connecting to peers if the peers the uTorrent client is attempting to connect to are inactive or sharing files very slowly. Of the many ways to get around this issue, clearing the peer list is the simplest. Clearing the peer list clears the peer cache and gives you a bunch of new and powerful peers to connect to, which could help resolve the issue.
Hopefully, applying the above fixes will resolve the halted download or peers stuck on connecting issues on uTorrent. If these fixes do not work and uTorrent fails to download a particular file, you can switch to another torrent client. I am having a weird issue with torrents on ubuntu 20.04. Whenever I try torrenting the torrent gets stuck at "loading metadata from 0 peers". I tried adding more trackers, forwarded the port set in my torrent client through my router (checked and the ports where open), changed network adapter and messed with proxy settings (Including no proxy), used multiple different clients including Transmission and QBitTorrent and nothing works. Anyone having any similar issues? Any solutions? Thanks!
Same here, after I updated to Ubuntu 20.04 Transmission stucks at medatadata. I installed qBittorrent and it is working for me. I know you said you tried it already; but this is how I did it, it might help someone:
I got stuck when doing npm install with couchdb-fauxton, I normally sit behind a corporation firewall and uses proxy everywhere, but switched to a direct connection, because using npm config proxy didn't work out for me. But the npm install uses git, which I still set to use proxy, that's how my install got stuck. After disable the proxy in git, it worked.
Additional gotcha is that it is hard to tell what package causes problem because npm logging in not precise enough and npm install process may seem to stuck on completely different package. In this case check your npm cache directory (/.npm/_cacache/tmp) to see what repositories are repeatedly cloned.

It does work! But you can't just use any random magnet uri or .torrent file. Thetorrent must be seeded by a WebRTC-capable client, i.e.WebTorrent Desktop, Vuze,webtorrent-hybrid, Playback,instant.io, or βTorrent.
First of all: a torrent tracker is not something optional in the BitTorrent world. Without trackers, you would not be able to start your downloads. It means that your torrent will be stuck at 0% because it cannot find any seeds or peers. If you add a torrent to your torrent program by downloading a .torrent file or clicking a magnet link, it will already contain a reference to 1 or a small list of trackers.
So by adding (more) trackers, your downloads will not get stuck at zero percent (or somewhere in the middle). Secondly, your overall downloads speed will increase, so that in the end your downloads will finish quickly.
