I just saw Michael's post where Pisces has been sold and the comment about the two happiest days in a sailor's life. The day they buy the boat and the day they sell the boat. Not sure about the second day.
We have sold La Mouette with great reluctance. After 10 years of adventures, we have reached the stages where we can no longer keep her. The motor blew after a long period of lockdown in COVID and basically, we haven't been able to afford a shiny red Beta replacement. Two weddings, a funeral plus a lengthy overseas trip has depleted our bank account, and my wife's (one of the weddings was Deb's and myself in Scotland in August) impending retirement, we are no longer in a position to financially maintain a yacht, albeit an old one such as a C28. La Mouette hasn't been used in a few years and has basically sat in the marina soaking up money.
Actually it sold faster than we anticipated and has gone to a new owner, Sandy from the Gosford area. Selling a boat with a blown motor meant a really low price but it's still a solid boat, nothing a new motor, a lick of paint and varnish won't fix.
I have recommended to Sandy that he join this group as it's an excellent resource. I have met some really great people on here over the years and at the annual BBQ/regatta.
It was quite a sad day really. After spending a few weekends on the boat cleaning it up and getting all our stuff off it, I was starting to enjoy pottering about on it again. And thinking up ways that we could keep it. But it's not to be.
I hope Sandy enjoys his adventures with La Mouette and I feel confident that she has gone to a good home. My worst fear was that she would end up as a mooring minder, or even worse, on Kimbriki tip.
Will we get another boat? Stranger things have happened at sea.
