The C28 we recently purchased on Lake Macquarie is fitted with a Yanmar SB8.  I had managed to track down online documentation for the YSE, which I originally thought was the engine fitted but I'm struggling to find equivalent documents for the SB8.  The only one I have managed to track down so far is a copy of the basic Operation Manual.  The text is generally legible but not a great copy and the diagrams and photographs lack any real detail.

I've also found that the motoren site that has been recommended in vary places is offline at the moment.

Any assistance in tracking down a set of docs for the SB8 would be much appreciated.  The motor starts and runs well but it's recent service history is a bit fuzzy and I'm keen to get in and start on all the basic checks.

Michael. I've placed the file Amanda found onto to Compass Group Web site, under the Articles > Maintenance section so that it easily accessible for future reference.

HI Michael,

you probably won't find a workshop manual for a YSB8/12. I spoke to Minards Diesel many years ago about purchasing a manual for my YSB12 but they advised that the only documentation for the YSB series was not particularly useful and that the YSM8/12 manual is close enough to meet most DIY requirements.

I don't know how true it is, but I was told that the difference between YSE/YSB/YSM is  E= early, B=between and M=modern.

If you need any advice or parts, Minards Diesel (Newcastle) have been extremely helpful in the past.

Regards,
Paul

Thanks for that advice Paul.  I've introduced myself to the team at Minnards and they have been very helpful in getting my education started, particularly Ian from the workshop.  They confirmed that it is very hard to track down any quality documentation and don't even have a full set of originals themselves.

I think I've got enough documentation now to start on the basics of oil and fuel system checks.  The cooling system is leaking a bit of water when the engine is running and will be the next step after the oil and fuel.

Thanks again to Amanda and Paul for your support and to Col for posting the document on the website.

After the engine servicing my next priorities will be:
  • Antifouling - I've already read some threads on the forum but would appreciate any thoughts on the best options people are currently using
  • Replacing the windows - aluminium frames corroded and all have minor leaks
  • Re-fixing loose stanchions - a couple also causing leaks in heavy rain
  • Compliant Toilet - Holding/Pump out tank or other suitable option
Mooring site finalised with RMS today in Warner's Bay so once Ian 'Swampy' Marsh has set up the mooring equipment we'll have a home to settle in to.

Marg and I have had a couple of excursions on the lake and had a great time.  Much to learn but the journey is certainly underway!

Warmest regards
Michael
