Hi All

I'm having a issue with my prop being eaten away even though I change my donnut adode right near the prop every year. And make sure the connection is clean and tight the brand I use is (reliance from Canada)

The anode is being eaten as well but so is the prop only 100mm away.

I was wondering if anyone has had and solved this issue?

I have seen the guppy fish anode at whittworths .

With these you clamp onto the drive shafted and hang the actual fish shaped anode over the side directly into the water.

Someone commented on here that they had tried more adodes when they had a issue but it made the problem worse.

I have decided to replace my prop when on the slip latter this month as I'm not comfortable going far from home with the state mine seems to be in. Like a pink aerobar!

Also does anyone know if the compass 28s drive shafts have the standard tapper on the 1 inch shafts.

As I carnt tell until on the slip and I need to pre order the new prop before I go up?

Oh the joys!

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers

Tony.

Survivee, (Nightingale, I think). New props are available from prop makers like Porters in Sydney but be aware that over or underloading a diesel with a prop - too coarse or too fine can ruin a diesel  engine quicktime. If the engine only has a 500 hour life perhaps an outboard with a fine prop would be better way to go

Hi All

Someone asked where I am getting my new prop from.

I have spoken to Astral props Sydney cost about $1100. That’s for a 3 blade I think about a 13 inch.( I am sending my old one up to make sure that I get the right tapper and size)

I haven’t done the deal yet is Porters worth getting a price from.

Does anyone actually know what the ideal prop size and design is best suited for a C28.

I have no idea of the history of my boat in terms of the prop it did get a new 20  HP kabota  engine 3 cylinder in 2010 not sure on shaft and prop.

Any history on the original C28  set up would be appreciated .

Cheers

Tony be careful you don't end up owning expensive scrap metal.  I do have a 13"x11" Austral prop but it would probably ruin your engine.  I think my old engine  was 15Hp with a 3:1 reduction (3 turns of the engine = 1 turn of the prop)

The prop supplier to calc the correct prop Needs:
Engine Brand/type/horse power
Gearbox input/Output ratio (eg could be 3 turns on input shaft=1 turn output shaft) (makers details off the label)
Boat type/weight (C29 is a heavier / bigger boat than a C28)

Hope there is something here that helps

Hi Tony
If it helps, I just picked up my new 13 x 9 or 10 prop from Porters. Haven't even put it on yet. Glen at Porters is a really nice guy and easy to deal with and made the prop in a week. Cost me about $900. I hope it works too. I have a 2QM 15 motor.

Tony I believe the C28s used a 7/8" shaft Typically under 10 hp.
The C29's typically 12-20 Hp used a 1" shaftscan0007.jpg
