Geoff was able to give us the original C29 Sail sizes which was great, but upon measuring the main sail Luff, it seems our measurement is 900mm shorter than original specs

We believe the mast to be original.

Does anyone have any info on whether the C29 came out with different mast heights?

Any info would be great.

Thanks

Steve

I have been told by one of my customers who owned a marina with few Compass 29 for hire that they had a smaller rig because they were hire boats . I'm not sure of the size .

I have been told that the shorter rig was installed on yachts for hire in the Broken Bay area so that they could get under the Hawkesbury railway bridge at all tides - necessary for access to Brooklyn marina facilties, for those not familiar with the area.

That makes a lot of sense. What mainsail dimensions do you end up with with a smaller rig?

Hi Bruce, we ended up with luff 8.3m and foot 3.15m on the main.

Everyone is right. Not sure whether the reduced mast height was for the Boatshed upstream of the Bridge or for MSB survey but the former I suspect. After 40ish years some boats may have had the bottom of the mast circumcised to remove corrosion.  I'd have to consult the drawings but I believe the mast tube should be standard at 36' .

Same with me, my Dunco 29 is a Compass derivative, my mast is 4 feet shorter than optimum as it was in charter in the Whitsundays.  My luff is 9 meters, foot is 3.3 metres.

Les, got to be careful, the D29 is a derivative of the C28.  The C29 is a bigger heavier boat with a tall narrow mainsail.

Yes, I thought it was derived from the Northerly, or Easterly, bit before the C28
