I have happily discovered that a Fortress FX-11 fits nicely into my Shakti's foredeck anchor well. I had been using a POS Danforth clone which was almost completely useless, but got a good deal on the unused FX-11 on Marketplace. I held my breath as I placed it in the well, because nothing ever fits on a boat right? But blow me down it goes right in. So now I can carry a ready-use anchor that is concealed and out of the way. The alternative was my #3 Sarca Excel, which is great anchor but very hard to stow on a little boat as I can't leave it in the roller due to the mooring strop.

Cheers, Graeme

Good job Graeme, nice to have a win sometimes :-)

I've seen them mounted with a bracket to a rail, most commonly in the cockpit as a stern anchor. I can imagine they would attract every line on the boat :-)

I went with an FX-16 as a stern/second anchor but probably won't stow it in the anchor well.

Kind regards,
Greg.

I have always had a 13Lb Danforth stowed vertically  on the aft side of the sail locker bulkhead.  It is relatively light and easy to stream quickly and is a great Lunch-Hook.  I one hooked it on a broken sandstone bottom and spent an hour getting it back - somewhat twisted.  Took a lot of work in a workshop to more-or less straighten it up.  been a great anchor for me.
I do have a 28Lb CQR for sale ex-Sydney if anyone is interested
