Home at last with life returning to normal.  If you haven't visited the Compass Site lately - it's changed quite a bit.  Photos from the 2019 Regatta are at the bottom of the front page - will fix that before the 2020 Regatta which will be the 19th of the modern era.

Please keep in mind that while we give out over a $1,000 in donated prizes each year, plus nearly $400 of trophies, we have marginal income. Gift/Donations will help keep us going and help the value of your boat and solve some of those quirky problems.  A DD of $5 per month would make a heck of a difference.  https://sites.google.com/site/compassyachtgroup/donations

We thank Vaucluse Yacht Club for continuing to allow us to use their basic but wonderful facilities each year and provide us with a night to remember

Try the new site now https://sites.google.com/site/compassyachtgroup/home view the 2019 pics and the Regatta pics over the years.  For obvious reasons I have not tagged people.

Rather proud of the header pic from a few years ago

Hi Geoff,
I only managed to get 2 pictures of the 3 boats that went to the raft up this year. Pisces being the "camera stand" is not in the shots! We had a good evening - as we are all no longer young only moderate amounts of wine/beer was consumed; but lots of good conversation.

Hi Geoff,

Congrats on the new site, it looks great, as do the photos from the regatta. I read somewhere on this forum about a potential regatta up here in QLD. That would be great!! It prompted me to have a look at the register to see just how many Compasses are up north, and there is more than enough to have a good sail and a party. Could I ask that when you are next on the register that you update the details for Saskia II to be moored at Southport YC on the Gold Coast with a rego of ZV430Q. If anyone is in the area anytime don't hesitate to look me up, I'd love to catch up for a drink and a Q and A / story telling session.

Cheers
Steve

Steve, I'll get to it.  Had to find a backup of my database now 400 Boats with the first Olympic 40 as the 400th.  Will post soon.  Just moving databases from MS to Libre ( and learning at the same time) I store a lot of personal data (Like who has a Nanni 21hp), I don't want to put on open Google.  Occasionally I do put people with like problems together

Maybe you at Southport YC could put on a Compass cruise to somewhere like Steiglitz or Jumpinpin and see what it attracts

Hi Geoff,

congratulations on the new website, it looks great and it looks like you must have spent a fair amount of time getting things so well organised.

Thanks for everything that you do for the group.

Paul

Hi Geoff,

May I suggest that you make a PDF version of your book available and not only a hard copy?

Regards,

Kris

Sorry Kris, thinking hard.  Will come back to you.  Still haven't got the new imaging unit for my colour laser.

Yes, I agree, that would be an awesome idea.

Kind Regards,
Greg.

Good thing with the PDF is that you won't need to worry about ink anymore :-)

The only thing is that PDFs are copied readily and that might impact sales, hence revenues.
And it would be a lot of work and time to convert.

there are measures you can take to make copying harder. But you can get a hard copy and scan that in easily (there are mobile scanning apps too) and do the same. Or make copies in a xerox and sell it. Digital age and it is hard to prevent misuse. And why would it be a lot of time to convert? Easy as..
I have only 2 hard copy books as back up (a navigator's almanach and a yachtmaster how to fix things book), I have no space for paper books. All of my books are on my kindle or tablet, with exception of one or two user manuals all paid for.

Hi Geoff;

I also think the new webpage looks great. My only issue is that I can't find the articles on trips, maintenance etc, can you please advise.

Cheers, Graeme

You had me worried.  On the New Site choose ARTICLES then CRUISING  https://sites.google.com/site/compassyachtgroup/articles/cruising/another-good-excuse-for-a-sail
