COMPARE Ecosystem Digest, September 21 - October 4, 2025

Hello COMPARErs! We just returned from this year’s CoRL and Humanoids conferences held in Seoul, Korea. If you’ve recently learned about and joined the COMPARE Ecosystem through these events, welcome! Expect more additions to our repositories over the next several weeks and we encourage you to submit your own material, too. As you can see, we’ve revised the COMPARE Ecosystem Digest format and from here on out will be posting bi-weekly. Keep the source open and mark that bench!

Here’s what you may have missed last week and what’s coming up soon:

Several new discussion topics around open-source software, new grasp planners and simulators added, perception repositories under construction, and NERC 2025 and IROS 2025 are coming up!

Open-Source Software Components

💬 #software_general

Should each entry in the COMPARE repos note in what OS and/or ROS version it was recently built successfully? [discussion]

New tutorial for a full bin picking solution in Isaac Sim, ROS, and ManyMove from Marco Pastorio [LinkedIn]

New manipulation pipeline leveraging Isaac Sim, ROS 2, cuRobo, and BehaviorTree.CPP from ElSayed ElSheikh [GitHub]

💬 #random: Official software support for the Franka Emika Panda (pre-FR3) has discontinued; which path would you recommend for leveraging ROS: (a) ROS 1 Noetic + ros1_bridge, (b) community ROS 2 port, or (b) upgrade the hardware/firmware? [discussion]

Grasp Planning

💬 #software_grasp-planning: For which grasp planners are there ROS packages available? (ideally ROS 2, but ROS 1 works, too) [discussion]

🤖 Grasp Planners: 4 new entries:

3DAPNet: 3DAPNet is a new method for affordance-pose joint learning. Given the captured 3D point cloud of an object and a set of affordance labels conveyed through natural language texts, our objective is to jointly produce both the relevant affordance regions and the appropriate pose configurations that facilitate the affordances.

7DGCG: 7DGCG is a method that generates 7-DoF grasps (6D pose + opening width) in dense clutters, where full opening of the gripper might not be achievable due to space constraints.

DexDiffuser: DexDiffuser, a novel dexterous grasping method that generates, evaluates, and refines grasps on partial object point clouds

DexGrasp Anything: DexGrasp Anything is a method that effectively integrates physical constraints into both the training and sampling phases of a diffusion-based generative model for multi-finger dexterous hand grasp generation, achieving state-of-the-art performance across nearly all open datasets.

Perception

💬 #software_perception: ROS 2 service-based interface for Meta’s Segment Anything 2 (SAM2) that can be run in a local environment or built as a Docker container [GitHub]

🤖 We’re currently building repositories for three core perception components: Segmentation, Object Detection, and Pose Estimation. Have recommendations on what we should include? [submission form]

Simulation

🤖 Simulators: 2 new entries:

MultiVerse: Decentralized Simulation Framework designed to integrate multiple advanced physics engines along with various photo-realistic graphics engines to simulate everything.

Webots: Webots is an open source and multi-platform desktop application used to simulate robots. It provides a complete development environment to model, program and simulate robots. It has been designed for a professional use, and it is widely used in industry, education and research.

Open-Source Hardware Designs

💬 #hardware_designs: CHILD (Controller for Humanoid Imitation and Live Demonstration): a Whole-Body Humanoid Teleoperation System [project page]

image.png

Benchmarking

💬 #benchmarking_general: V2 of CloudGripper – the open-source cloud robotics testbed for remote robotic manipulation research – is on its way! The system is hosted at KTH in Sweden, globally accessible, and features 32 small robot arms workcells, 8 industrial arms, datasets of thousands of hours of real world robot-object interaction data, and full MIT open-source software and hardware design [project page]
