For 17 flagship restoration projects across Europe, MERLIN explores social, economic and environmental success factors, generating a blueprint for the proficient implementation of Nature-based Solutions suited for immediate replication.

If you depend on Gantt charts and kanban boards to keep your projects on schedule, you might assume your only recourse is to sign up for one of the many services available. There are plenty to choose from, but when a project might be of a more sensitive nature, or you prefer a more traditional desktop client-type solution, what do you do?

One option is Merlin Project, which is a professional-grade project management system for macOS and iOS devices. With Merlin Project, you can plan, control and monitor all of your projects. The feature set found in Merlin Project includes:

Project Merlin was announced on 9 February 2011 by Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne. Under the agreement banks will lend about 190bn to businesses during 2011 - including 76bn to small firms - curb bonuses and reveal some salary details of their top earners. The Bank of England will monitor whether loans targets are being met. This was in addition to the government increasing its levy on banks to 2.5bn in 2011 - raising an extra 800m. HSBC, Barclays, Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) and Lloyds Banking Group have signed up to the Project Merlin agreement, while Santander has agreed to the lending parts of the deal. Other pledges include providing 200m of capital for David Cameron's Big Society Bank, which is intended to finance community projects.[3]

But the Lab is a whole different place now than we were when that logo was designed. Back then, our staff numbered only about two dozen. Our logo stood tall and used all capital letters to demonstrate we were serious about birds. Today, with more than 260 employees, programs that reach around the globe, and projects that include everyone from academic leaders to beginning citizen scientists, we felt it was time for an update.

Europe's environment is in an alarming state from nature loss and climate change. This in turn threatens human wellbeing and economic prosperity. Transformative change is needed across society to tackle these crises. The UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (UKCEH) is part of the EU-funded MERLIN project which will focus on large-scale, innovative ecosystem restoration using nature-based solutions as one of the keys to driving societal change.

The overall project will focus on different sectors (agriculture, water supply, hydropower, navigation, insurance) to achieve much greater upscaling of nature-based solutions to restore freshwater and wetland biodiversity and in so doing enhance the services they provide. These include climate services (Carbon sequestration and reduced greenhouse gas emissions), climate resilience (to floods and droughts) and wider European Green Deal goals on green growth, inclusion and health and wellbeing.

Funding will go to 17 areas in Europe, from Scotland to Israel, where streams, rivers and peatlands are being restored to enhance biodiversity and resilience to climate change, enabling these schemes to be expanded, monitored and evaluated. The success factors of each project will be scrutinised, generating a blueprint for proficient implementation of nature-based solutions. The Forth Catchment in Scotland is one of the case study sites for catchment restoration.

Are the best project management software titles too powerful for your needs? Are you new to project management and are looking for an approachable solution? Then, it's time to consider Merlin Project Express, a terrific option for anyone looking to tackle small projects, resources, and budgets using a Mac.

Developed by ProjectWizards, Merlin Project Express offers a single-user interface and side panels to help you quickly create Gantt charts. Considered a "slimmed-down" version of the long-running Merlin Project, the express version is ideal for home and semi-professional users who only work on projects occasionally.

It takes about 30 seconds to create a new project in Merlin Project Express. You can either start from scratch or select from a list of templates. There are currently templates for a big birthday, online advertising campaign, road trip, simple activity plan, the start of self-employment, and a wedding. Other templates are accessible from the ProjectWizards website. There's also a demo project that's worth checking out. Define the tasks, arrange the elements, and set your milestones to get started. Then, in just a few steps, your first project is ready to go! The app is user-friendly and intuitive by design.

Once you create a project, you can add resources and attachments. On both points, the app makes it relatively pain-free. For the former, you can either import content from other applications or drag & drop like you can do with other Mac apps. Merlin Project Express can open various file formats, including CSV, iCalendar, Merlin 2, Microsoft Project, Mindmanager / Freemind / Novamind, OmniPlay, OPML, and XML. In addition, you can export Merlin Project Express files through CVS, iCal, Images (PDF, PNG, JPEG, and more), OPML, and XML.

Once your project is created, you can perform time- and effort-based planning, create milestones, costs/budgets, dependencies, a working time calendar, and maintain activity notes. Available view options are Structure, Gantt, and Resource Management. Finally, from a display perspective, the express version offers dark mode, critical path view, and more.

Project Management software can be costly, and it's one of the reasons many don't use it in a home-based environment. With Merlin Project Express, you can begin your project management journey for just $5 a month. And yet, if you expect to get serious with project management, there are many other options available, starting with the full version of Merlin Project.

Regardless, $5/month isn't asking that much for a project management solution. Merlin Project Express is a powerful tool and makes it possible to set up projects using colorful Gantt charts quickly. From there, you can quickly export them to presentation software.

The project partners also develop image processing software for the analysis of microscopic pathological changes in the retina, and carry out clinical experimentations in order to evaluate and optimize both performance and usability in AMD and DR patients.

The project has delivered retinal imaging prototypes that are now being tested at two medical centers. These systems combine several technologies, including optical coherence tomography OCT) and adaptive optics (AO), to visualize the retina at different scales with multiple modalities. For the first time, doctors can directly examine cells in three dimensions at the back of the eye.

Sound ID collaborators: The Sound ID project relies heavily on regional experts that know all the bird vocalizations in their region. Over 150 people have shared their expertise, with major contributions (over 10,000 annotated songs and calls) from Nick Athanas, Blaine Carnes, Tayler Brooks, Jhonathan Miranda, Esha Munshi, Fabricio C. The MERLIN (Metadata Enrichment for Repositories in a London Institutional Network) project will demonstrate and evaluate the use of off-the-shelf text mining and thesaurus tools to derive descriptive subject classification from repository deposits.

The testbed for MERLIN will be the SHERPA-LEAP Consortium's LASSO aggregation service. MERLIN will aim to use terms extracted from texts stored in LASSO's source repositories to demonstrate automated enhancements to the discovery and navigability of the LASSO service. Towards the end of the project, a platform-neutral tool, allowing individual repositories to implement the MERLIN method of automated metadata enhancement, will be made generally available.

The project works top down from EU level data and institutions; and bottom up from the experiences within our 18 case studies. In particular, we focus on transformative changes within six economic sectors:

MERLIN is an error-annotated written learner corpus for German, Italian and Czech. It was created within the MERLIN project (2012-2014). The texts in MERLIN were taken from standardized language tests and are methodologically precisely related to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (Council of Europe 2001, 2020). This platform makes all corpus texts available with their ratings. It shows possible usage scenarios, in the teaching practice as well as in research, and informs about the structure and the design of the corpus and of the annotations. Users can search the corpus with the help of the integrated web-based search engine ANNIS.

The project will bring together artists from Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales to delve into the myth and its poetry to inspire new work. The artists are Gwyneth Glyn and Twm Morys from Wales, Lorcán Mac Mathúna from Ireland, Maeve Mackinnon from Scotland and Andy May from Northumberland, England.
