writing to root window

i've tried command | xrootconsole but for different reasons it doesn't
do for me...

i remember having used a different program to write strings to the
root window that was ok but i cannot remember its name

anyone with a memory better than mine?

Are you talking about writing things to the root window? I use
display from ImageMagick for that. Maybe that isn't what you want?

Think there's been more than one. root-tail comes to mind...
