Hello,
I have been reading this group almost since it begain, and far
and away the most frequently-asked-question is about HLHSR.
I have read some people criticism of those who ask these questions,
saying that they should go off and read the release notes or
whatever; this is true but to be fair the release notes and other
documentation should spell out EXPLICTLY that HLHSR is not support ed
and ALSE offer advice as to where to obtain patches (e.g. the MIT
Z-buffering patch).
If people (MIT) want others to use the PEX-SI more then they and we
should make is as easy as possible and save people the hassle of chasing
something that isnt there...

And the answer to this question is in the FAQ list, which people
should read anyway before posting a question to a group.
This applies to all newsgroups; not just this one.

1) The X stuff is not controlled by MIT anymore. The X Consortium
is the organization.
2) I'm sorry that the release notes don't have this fact in capital
letters on page 1.
3) The patch, like a lot of other patches, came AFTER the release notes
were written and placed in the X distribution.
4) The patch is NOT an official X Consortium patch. It is not clear
that it even works. (I found one bug just by reading implementation.doc)
The patch has NOT been applied to the X Consortium source. That is why
the patch is in contrib.

Complaining here is not a guarentee that the problem will be fixed.
If this is really important to you, file a bug report with the Consortium.
(You should find a blank form and instructions in your distribution)
You'll probably have to work with the XFree people also to get them to
update the files. It all takes work, and these people probably have better
things to do.
