konqueror and https and proxy

Hello!

With the current konqueror I get an annoying problem with https
connections. To be more precise: I can't connect to any https sites
and get a message that the connection died and on the console I see a
note about a segfault.

This happens while I use a http proxy (either webwasher or wwwoffle,
or whatever).

It really looks as though konqueror used my http proxy for https as
well!? But I would like to use my proxy for http only and to have
konqueror do https without a proxy! Seems to be impossible. The only
workaround that I could think of is to create a list of "don't use
proxy for" for all those https sites, although this is sometimes
difficult when you need a lot of differing addresses for one https
site.

Someone has an idea?

Peter,

I suspect it is not your proxy settings. If so, try accessing a secure site
without proxies.

Do you have Java installed? If you look at the Konqueror Home Page Java
Section I think you will find there is a link to a couple of files you need
to download from the Sun Site for HTTPS to work properly. I'm not 100% sure
on this so don't hold me to it, but https is working fine on Konqueror on my
system.

The JSSE java security extension is only necessary if the site uses java over
https. It is irrelevant to normal https or javascript.
However he must have openssl installed working and setup in the
control-centre/or konq to use https.

My konqueror is part of a binary KDE package for Suse Linux which
should not need any additions.

To avoid any confusion, once again:
https doesn't work when I have a http proxy in use (like webwasher,
wwwoffle or any other external http proxy), but I didn't say that it
never works! (= when not using a http proxy)

If I disable any http proxy, I can, indeed, connect to https sites,
i.e. without any proxy!

So the problem looks as though konqueror doesn't differentiate between
using a proxy for http and using a proxy for https; and indeed, there
is only one setting in the configuration (http proxy), there is no way
to enter a https proxy.

By contrast, in netscape you can, as you all certainly know, specify a
http proxy and as a seperate entry a https proxy as well.

There seems to be the root of the problem.

Peter
