Hi there folks..

We have here a NCR 3450 with 4 x 486/50 cpu's and 196 MB RAM with
4 x scsi disks running UNIX SVR4 MP RAS.

I was wondering if solaris, linux or even FreeBSD will run on it.
It has no cd-rom drive.

And what is the highest price any of you will pay for it , if you could buy
it.

Just a quick question
Regards..

Since many of the cards for that box were MICROCHANNEL, chances are,
NOTHING other than MP-RAS will work. MP-RAS was OK, I'm sure there is
an upgrade for that box.

You can install Linux on that box ...
but I don't know if the MCA version of linux and SMP go well
with each other... (check it out)
If you are using the scsi card prior to ncr53c810 .. the thing won't work.
(There is some code for c700 cards but that is not complete)

btw, you can also install windows NT (sic) on that box of yours
but having worked on both MP-RAS and NT I myself would never go for that
option. But NCR has stopped development of MP-RAS and ...

Hope this helps

Solaris 2.6 has support for MC but you need an
Adaptec SCSI in the 3450 to do it.
I think MC was dropped in Solaris 7.
Also, Solaris can only be installed via a network
boot/install server or a CD-ROM. Tape install is not supported.
