I'm trying to install UW 1.1 PE on a system due to be shipped out to
Poland on Thursday, but it keeps hanging (7 times so far) at the kernel
rebuild stage.

System configuration is as follows:

486DX2-66 processor
12Mb RAM
Adaptec AHA-1522A SCSI controller
Seagate ST5660N SCSI hard disk
Wangtek 5525ES SCSI tape drive

I've tried the "adsshba" driver from the supplied IHV/HBA disk and the
alternative driver from ftp.novell.com, using the jumper configuration
detailed in "adss.txt".

The controller should be functioning because we had the system on soak
test before starting the installation.

I've successfully installed using an AHA-1542CF which I "borrowed" from
a system which isn't due to be delivered until the end of next week.

Is there no hope of getting the 1522 configuration working, or should
we try to persuade our supplier to exchange it for a 1542?

Thanks for the call on Thursday, Martin. Your concern is very much appreciated.

We sent the system out with the 1542 controller in the end, but I did get the
1522 working on another system last night. I'd failed to change the BIOS address
location jumpers from DC000 to D8000. Strange why it only fails at rebuild,
though...

I ended up using the HBA I downloaded from ftp.novell.com, and it's well worth
doing so to get the correct jumper settings (not in the installation handbook or
release notes).

Just for the record, I ended up with jumpers fitted as follows:

J5 BT, M1, SN, DN
J6 SD, SD, SD, IC (only on the first one of the pair)
J8 D0, D0
J9 I0, J6, BE

Works fine, but does anyone know how we can get the HDD light working? The lead
is fixed to J1, but the light only comes on for a short time after power-up.
After that, zilch.

I don't think this has ever worked on the 1522... :((.
