I just received a machine (Sun Ultra 1, Solaris 2.5.1) from another
group. When I boot it up in multi-user mode it hangs at "setting
default interface for multicast: add net 244.0.0.0 gateway
beagle.dogpound.com". I went in in single-user mode and checked the
hostname, defaultrouter, networks, and netmasks, erverything looked
good. Also, the ethernet interface is configured and up (ifconfig).
Any suggestions on why the machine hangs at this spot in the boot
process? All the networking stuff looks good. Thanks for any help.

Looks to me like it can't resolv the beagle.dogpound.com hostname;
try putting it's IP address in there instead (or put beagle.dogpound.com
into /etc/hosts). If it still doesn't work, it's probably a routing
issue.

HTH,

NT tries to do almost everything UNIX does, but fails - miserably.

The use of Windoze cripples the mind; its use should, therefore, be
regarded as a criminal offence. (With apologies to Edsger W. Dijkstra)

If it ain't analogue, it ain't music.
