We set up an anonymous FTP server according to the Solaris 2.3 man page and
with the notes from Computer Science at Univ. of Toronto - but have
an interesting problem.

For some FTP clients - like WS_FTP under MS Windows, and Fetch under
MacOS, the FTP 'ls' command returns nothing for the anonymous user.

Strangely, 'ls' works just fine for user 'anonymous' for FTP clients making
the connection from SunOs, Solaris, and the FTP client for DOS from NCSA.

FTPing to the Solaris machine as a regular user works fine - 'ls' returns
a directory listing for all clients!

Is that an interesting teaser? Why would just some clients fail get anything
returned from 'ls' (the client just brings up the next FTP> prompt), while
other clients work just fine. Also why the difference between the anonymous
user and a regular user when FTPing to the Solaris machine?

We have checked the setup with all of the necessary library files for the
anonymous FTP directories multiple times.

Thanks for any ideas ...
