Dual Gigabit Ethernet / Dual SCSI card in Ultra 40M2

Should the Sun Dual Gigabit Ethernet / Dual SCSI card (501-6635),
option 4422A, work in a Sun Ultra 40M2 workstation with Solaris 10?
I have two know good cards and when I put either one in the
workstation with a fresh installation of Solaris 10 U9 (09/10) I get
the same problem. There are some SCSI error messages when Solairs is
booting, and then after I login “ifconfig –a shows” only the local
host interface. The nge0 and nge1 interfaces aren’t listed. If I do
a “ifconfig ngex plumb” or “ifconfig cex plumb” the system locks up
hard, and the only thing that can be done after that is to power cycle
it. The system has no patches installed, uname -v reports
Generic_142910-17.
The Sun handbook doesn’t list it as supported in the Ultra 40M2, but
it is listed in some x86 servers. (The V20z and V40z.)
