You must be if you are posing HP/HP-UX questions in a Solaris
newsgroup :)
You might consider using comp.sys.hp.hpux for your query as it is more
likely to reach folks familair with hp 9000's than comp.unix.solaris.
There is a comp.sys.hp.hpux FAQ that may (or may not) cover printing
issues. I think it gets archived on rtfm.mit.edu:
ftp://rtfm.mit.edu/pub/usenet-by-group/comp.sys.hp.hpux
When/if you do post to comp.sys.hp.hpux, it would be helpful if you
could include the HP-UX revision, and some identifying information
about the printer.
sincerely,
rick jones
fwiw, when I print from my venerable J5600 workstation running HP-UX
11.11 to various HP printers about the building, I specify
"-olandscape" on my lp commands

these opinions are mine, all mine; HP might not want them anyway... :)
feel free to post, OR email to rick.jones2 in hp.com but NOT BOTH...
If you are using the HP "net_ljx00" model script or one of the other
model scripts distributed with the JetDirect software, then you only
need to say "lp -o landscape <filespec>"
Otherwise, you may have to look up the PCL escape sequence to put the
printer in landscape mode, store it in a file and then do something like
cat escape_file file_to_print | lp
See http://www.hp.com/support/net_printing if you want to download the
HP software.
There may be other ways to do it but they aren't well documented enough
for an old fart like me do figure it out.

I believe the HP9000 he is refering to is the LaserJet 9000. It doesn't
run HPUX!

Well, why the heck not? It starts with 64 MB RAM and a 300MHz processor
and you can add a 5GB disk drive. That's beefier than several of the
"other" HP9000s I've worked on.....
It's got a 4x20 character LCD screen. I wouldn't want to run X on it.
