How can I find out what kind of processor is in a Solaris box?
Especially x86.

Solaris/sparc: psrinfo -v

Thanks, that seems to work for x86 as well. On my box it doesn't
detect the CPU model, but it does give the clock frequency.

cd /usr/platform
ls
cd <your_platform_name>
./sbin/prtdiag -v

$ /usr/platform/`uname -i`/sbin/prtdiag -v
ksh: /usr/platform/i86pc/sbin/prtdiag: not found

For x86, you're stuck using just "psrinfo".

Moreover, prtdiag is available for sun4u (and sun4d?) only,
not for sun4m, sun4c, etc.

My apologies for digging up such an old thread. Its a top Google hit and the other answers were not that satisfying.

$ uname -a
SunOS solaris 5.11 11.3 i86pc i386 i86pc

However,

$ isainfo -v
64-bit amd64 applications
ssse3 ahf cx16 sse3 sse2 sse fxsr mmx cmov amd_sysc cx8 tsc fpu
32-bit i386 applications
ssse3 ahf cx16 sse3 sse2 sse fxsr mmx cmov sep cx8 tsc fpu
$ isainfo -b
64
$ isainfo -n
amd64
$ isainfo -k
amd64

Also see "How to Determine Whether a System Has 32–bit or 64–Bit Solaris Capabilities Enabled" (http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E19082-01/819-2380/enfli/index.html).

'prtdiag' and 'prtconf -v' also have more specific information on model
of CPU, you just need
a bit of awk/grep fu to extract it from prtconf -v
