On 9, I had the CDE login, but after the upgrade I get a "can't find
console framebuffer" and am at command line. I've installed various
packages including the two TSI*, but so far GUI hasn't returned.
Short of manually loading every package from the install disks is
there some new Sol 10 package I am missing?
Thanks.

That's not a standard Sun provided framebuffer then?

I'm not sure; if the framebuffer is 3rd party, you may need to
get the 3rd party framebuffer support updated.

Expressed in this posting are my opinions. They are in no way related
to opinions held by my employer, Sun Microsystems.
Statements on Sun products included here are not gospel and may
be fiction rather than truth.
>>> That's not a standard Sun provided framebuffer then?
Hmmm...I think it is standard. I was going off what clues I could
find in the newsgroup
and other websites because the CDE didn't come back up.
Hm, OK; TSI packages are for specific framebuffers for which support
does not come bundled.
What is the exact message about the missing console driver?
What does "prtdiag" report about your system?
It might be useful to provide a few details about the hardware;
especially the framebuffer. So far all you've told us is that the box
is SPARC and that the framebuffer is "standard".
So how about make, model, serial number, etch revision and any other
potentially useful information?

So you have 280R with an XVR-100 frame buffer.
I have a Blade 2000 with an XVR-100 and it works just fine.
You need packages SUNWpfb SUNWpfbcf SUNWpfbw
and I suspect you have them already. Somehow the upgrade didnt work
right
so try a reboot -- -r
"Usenet helps those who help themselves..."
IOW try a little harder next time you post.
All you said was "I upgraded a sparc machine from ver 9 to 10"
and that the CDE disappeared. Not much to go on!
How would adding PGX32 (Raptor GFX) packages help...?
Do you have two graphic adapters?

That's a "pfb" device; try:
grep pfb /etc/*_*
Make sure you have the following packages installed:
system SUNWpfb Sun XVR-50/XVR-100 Graphics System Software/Device Driver
application SUNWpfbcf Sun XVR-50/XVR-100 Graphics Configuration Software
application SUNWpfbw Sun XVR-50/XVR-100 Graphics Window System Support
Have a most excellent day.
