I am running Solaris 8 on a SPARC platform. For the past 3 days my
customers have been unable to upload files to my ftp server. They are
able to connect and are prompted to enter their username and password.
When they try to upload a file they get the following message:
220 sswebprd.smartmail.com FTP server (Version wu-2.6.2+Sun) ready.
Connected to FTP.SMARTMAIL.COM.
331 Password required for "username".
230 User "username" logged in. Access restrictions apply.
200 PORT command successful.
550 Requested action not taken
221-You have transferred 0 bytes in 0 files.
221-Total traffic for this session was 302 bytes in 0 transfers.
221-Thank you for using the FTP service on sswebprd.smartmail.com.
221 Goodbye.
Error 550 occurs when a file is attempted to be uploaded. The
customers have requested Passive FTP be set. I don't know if that's
the problem or not.
Here's an example of the script the customers run:
FTP ftp.smartmail.com /USER="username" /PASSWORD="password"
> SET PASSIVE ON
> PUT LG20030820161749.MAN
> QUIT
Here's what I have done so far...
1. Deleted and recreated the user accounts
2. deleted and recreated the directory paths
3. confirmed that no changes had been made to the ftpaccess file. I
have given the necessary access for the users to connect and write to
the proper directories.
4. confirmed that write permissions existed on the directory in
question.
I could really use some help with this one. If anyone has an idea
where I should go from here I would really appreciate it.
Thanks for your time,
Ron

Gee, I wonder.

Try taking out the "PUT", replacing it with a simple 'dir',
and see if you still get the error.
If so, look for a commandline switch for turning on pasv mode.
BTW, change all the FTP client commands to lowercase.
